Per Scout, Bama is his #1, followed by ND. If Bama were to offer, he said he'd commit on the spot. He talks to Cooks a lot, and said we want him to commit, but he says he wants to take an OV first, for the Michigan game, then decide. Also looking to take other OVs...

I have very rarely felt less confident that we will get a kid who we are serious about.

He should probably take into consideration the fact that he's recovering from a serious injury and Saban's track record of "releasing" players who can't keep up physically. Even at that, I'm not sure he lands the major offer he thinks he might get.

IMO I dont think I want a guy playing on my football team that would rather be somewhere else. I think the most important thing about the blue chippers we've pulled in thus far, is the fact that they wanna be in South Bend. If he wants to be at Bama so bad, then I say we keep the train moving. I dont want to be someones fall back. We still have other options out there and he is coming off a serious injury. We've been his only real big name offer for months and he hasn't pulled the trigger. I understand that he hasnt been on campus and maybe that will change his mind, but deep down you have to think that this guy is just waiting for a Texas A&M or a TCU or even a Bama offer and he's gone.

RANKING
Rivals: :s::s::s:, #23 S, Rating 5.7
Scout: :s::s::s:, #40 S
ESPN: :s::s::s:, #62 S, Grade 76

Originally Scout had him as a 4 Star, #11 CB. Then they ranked him as a 4 Star, #17 S. Then he went to camps at Alabama, LSU, TCU, and A&M and didn't get an offer. They lowered his ranking to 3 Star, # 40 S.

Rivals had him on their 250 To Watch. Now he's a 3 Star, #23 S and not in their Top 250.

ESPN had him on their 150 Watch List. Now he's a 3 Star, #62 S.

Could be on concern about his knee or simply other recruits performing better at camps and combines, and garnering offers that he's not.

Bama already has S Hasean Clinton-Dix and CB Jabriel Washington. They're in good shape/in the running for #2 S Erique Florence of Valley, AL, Doran Grant, Damian Swann in GA, Chris Jones of AL, the Atkinson brothers, Jabari Gorman, and others.

LSU has verbals from 3 DBs and 2 ATHs and have other notables still in the running.

TCU has verbals from 4 DBs and 3 ATHs

A&M has verbals from 3 DBs and 1 ATH.

Most of the talent at LSU, TCU, and A&M appears comparable (mostly 3 Star guys) not the blue chip guys that Bama's got. Still he chose those schools, all in the South, to camp. Like many recruits he put together a wish list and it hasn't materialized.

Aldridge probably knows little about ND before this Spring except what he saw on TV or didn't see in the polls for almost his entire life.

His 2.8 GPA and 860 SAT (he plans a retake) may give him reservations about competing in ND's academic environment. I believe Aaron Lynch with better academic credentials had that concern. Lots of ND recruits do. ND Admssions could also be waiting to see improvement ala Daniels.

As for not wanting a kid who doesn't jump on an ND offer, damn good thing the coaches make that decision and not fans at a keyboard.

On that basis scratch Te'o and the late commitments who waited or struggled to make a decision. Throw back Tate, Badger, and the host of recruits over the years who committed somewhere else (how dare they!) and later changed to ND.

There's 6 months left in this recruiting cycle.

"How dare I" post my opinion on an open forum.
We should focus on players that have a strong desire to be at Notre Dame not Alabama. I didnt say anything about "not wanting" Aldridge. I plainly said I didnt want to be someones fall back option. A student athlete should WANT to be at the school they will spend the next four years of their life at. We do have other options showing interest and I trust BK to make the decisions he has to. I didnt say to pull back the offer and move on like we never knew him. By saying "keep the train moving," I meant to look for players that have a passion and desire for ND football and a ND lifestyle.
Read what I say next time instead of mixing your thoughts with my post.

Well what does 'keep the train moving' mean then, if you say it doesn't mean move on like we never knew him? What's the difference? Does it mean move on, but only kind of move on? You either move on or you don't.

Here's the thing about recruiting: Not every stud's dream is to be at ND. In fact, most kids nowadays don't have that dream, even kids we've recruited. Guess which school Shaq Evans wanted to go to? USC. Guess which schools offered him? USC and ND. Guess which school he committed to? USC. If we took your approach, he wouldn't be at ND right now. He spurned us at first, but we didn't 'keep the train moving' just because at first he didn't want to be here.

Who is the ONLY freshman on the 2 deep right now? Tai'ler Jones. He had an ND offer AND he was a legacy. And who did he commit to? Stanford. He didn't want to be at ND at first. But CW stuck with it, and got him to flip. If we had 'kept the train moving', we'd be without a potential AA down the road (the way he's begun his career at ND).

Now, I don't think Johnson wants to be at ND and most likely never will IMHO, but you NEVER know. If the staff wants him, why in the world would you stop recruiting a guy who plays a position of desperate need who has you #2 on his list? That would be crazy.

If you stop recruiting guys who like you but have you only in the top 5, then you will not be a coach for very long. Get mad all you like, but it's the truth.

Im not mad at anything or anyone. Unlike a few, I understand what an open forum is for. Thats specifically why I wrote IMO. Granted maybe "keep the train moving" wasnt the best choice of words. However, all im saying is that with the players left on the board, we have other options. Again, maybe his trip to South Bend changes his opinion and hopefully so. But im not ready to put all my eggs in a basket for a guy coming off a serious injury, and has little desire for the ND program. The difference in the recruits you spoke of and Quincy is that ND was always on their radar. They had interest all along. Aldridge hasnt given that off so the two are not compairable.

Did Quincy end up making it to the Michigan game? If so anyone know how it went?

Nevermind he didn't make it. He is trying to set up officials with ND and Illinois. He also says USC has been recruiting him hard lately. I get the feeling his recruitment will be a whirlwind unless Bama offers him.

ISD says that we have stopped recruiting him. Not sure about the offer but we are not recruiting him anymore.

That's fine. He's was a waste of time and resources considering he wasn't interested at all.

Moving on.

I, for one, am in favor of this. He's had his only big time offer in his hands for months and hasn't made a trip. Yawn.

This is pretty easy to understand [from our distance at least]. We've gotten four DB commitments, and seem to be heavily in the mix for young Mr. Lyons. Also Young Mr. Shuler's father just said that Coach was recruiting him for the defensive side of the ball. And most of the comment on the board seems to think that Young Mr. French would make a slobberknocker of a safety. All that plus Badger coming back one year later as a mature young man, and maybe Kelly sees that trimming time on the offer list is really low risk.

if we can finish the season strong like with the big win over Utah last week, then beating Army in the new New York stadium and then USC, i think we might still have a chance to get him. but from what i've read from you guys, did we simple just give up on the kid, cause it shows that he still has interest in ND.

Those things are very rarely updated. You'll see one kids supposedly hate us until right before he announces for us. I don't know if they are slow or just don't care that much.

Scout.com: Aldridge Visiting Illinois

Texas safety Quincy Aldridge now favors Illinois and Notre Dame solidly over Texas A&M, Arkansas, TCU and Louisiana Tech. Illinois and Notre Dame have offered. “It’s a close race between Illinois and Notre Dame,” Aldridge admitted. “But A&M and Arkansas are in the mix too. I’m actually the most comfortable with A&M because I’ve been there a lot and know everyone there pretty well...”

Why are we even bothering talking about kid. I mean this guy clearly has no interest in coming to ND.
