Yeah I like the green jersey's too, but they are losing their mystique. They have turned in to more of an alternate uniform rather than a "ralling" tactic.

They will need to get a new one, maybe all gold uniforms, now think about that.

How about black and green?

Aren't we away for this game? Kelly had talked about going to the green jerseys for the Army game at Yankee Stadium, which is a "home" game, but nothing about Navy. I don't doubt the source, but I'm just wondering if they got the academies confused.

Gold jerseys?! That would look terrible! In fact, it has. Look at the uniform thread where I posted a picture.

I thought Kelly was going to have the green jerseys for the Army game, what is this about?

It sounds like the green techfit jerseys won't be ready to go for Army, so they're switching third uni day to Navy.

Not trying to be an ***, but the article says: "Adidas will have the Techfit Irish green jersey ready for the Navy game, Daniels said today." If they can have it ready for the Navy game, they should have it ready for the Army game, which is after Utah. We are away for the Navy game, so I don't know how accurate this is. I think they are misunderstanding something, but that's just my opinion.

With some further thought, maybe Kelly was trying to mislead everyone into thinking it would be for Army, when they planned to wear them against Navy. It would be more "shocking" to the fans when they ran out in them. I'm not sure on the rules, but I am assuming that Navy would simply have to give us the okay to wear our green jerseys instead of white in the away capacity. I think I'm giving too much thought to this.

I'm with you. I'd rather not go to my grave cursing the Middies ... and god-awful green jerseys to boot!

I dont care what color it is so long as they win! Seriously though, it would be nice to know so I can coordinate my jersey before going to the game. I was going to wear my white away, now I may have to break out my old green.

Did Adidas not make White Techfit jerseys yet or something? It's going to be a mess if Navy is wearing blue and ND is wearing green also.

Good teams do not need lame gimmicks.

Good teams do not need lame gimmicks.

As if they make any difference anyway. Just prepare for the game and go out and play better than the other guys. Forget the green jerseys now and forever.

"The Fighting Irish will be wearing a green jersey on Oct. 23 at The Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey against Navy. Kelly was not keen on bouncing the team back to a pre-Techfit material for one game.

Adidas will have the Techfit Irish green jersey ready for the Navy game, Daniels said today."

How in the **** is a green jersey a gimmick? A gimmick is a WR reverse, Flea Flicker, Center Touch Go(illegal), HB Option Pass, or a HB Toss Pass. Not a ****ing jersey...

I love our white aways, but damn. And you're certainly not the first I've heard mention "gimmick" associated with this jersey bull****.

Gimmick to me: a device used for making a fair game crooked.

Now a "TECHFIT" jersey may certainly be a gimmick. If, indeed, it does incorporate the Iron Man technologies into the Irish, BearCats, Wolverines, Aggies, Bruins, etc.

Of course it doesn't make a difference, but it doesn't hurt either.

Hell, we INVENTED the alternate jersey thing with our greens, so why not join the 21st century and trot them out once a year? It does no harm, and the kids (read: recruits) love it.

I have the official 05 green number 10 also...

I would like to get one of the kelly green throwback though... number 81 would be very fitting for that era

You're right, I switched Army and Navy in my head. Don't know why the plan changed then.

You can't forget the green jerseys, they are in integral part of Notre Dame history.

Plus, only about 5% of the time they have been worn in history, were they used for "gimmicky" purposes (if you want to call it that).

Rockne started wearing them to distinguish his team from Navy and Iowa who also wore dark uniforms. Only later did he use them for psychological purposes on a couple occassions.

We switched at halftime during a game against Iowa in the 30's, but for the most part the green was worn here and there just for color contrast.

There were entire classes in the 40's and 50's that wore nothing but green. No gimmicks involved there.

Then we had the Trojan horse game, and another 3 or 4 years of going green again.

The use of green as a real gimmicky thing, although based in what Rockne did a couple times, is really a modern thing. Faust wore them twice, Holtz twice, Davie & Willie once, Weis three times.

I've advocated switching to green at home (on the road too maybe) for two or three years in a row. Just get the whole "we're cursed", "they fire the other team up more" stuff out of the way and wear them all the time.

Notre Dame has more of a history of wearing them for seasons at a time then they do wearing them for one-off occassions to pump the team/crowd/fan base up.

On this jersey thing, another idea we might want to try would be to sew leather patches that look like actual-size footballs on the front of all of our offensive players' jerseys so the other team can't tell who really has the ball.

we have different definitions for the word gimmick

we have different definitions for the word gimmick

gimmick plays or gimmicks like special jerseys do not make the game crooked. They are designed to give the team using the gimmick an advantage, nothing crooked about that. I just think using the greens has become a pathetic gimmick, it sends the message the team is not good enough. I wish they would let it go.

As for using the greens as an alternate (aka third) jersey, why? Because some other schools (and pro teams) do it? Not a very compelling reason IMO. It does get fans to put out more $$$, which is probably the reason most teams do it.

Why would anyone object to "The Irish" occasionally wearing green jerseys? What's the thought process there? Have we unearthed another NDOM who just likes to jerk people's chains for the fun of it? That's how I'm going to take such commentary --- much more relaxing for an old guy. Click! Turn the page.

I'm all for it. Green looks sweet, and its not going to be the deciding factor on winning or losing for ND. As much as the 'old school' junkies may not like it...the young people do and we've got recruits to win over! And not saying that a recruit will come to ND because they wore green jerseys once, but hell all the little things add up...it doesn't hurt.

If they're wearing green against Navy, anyone think it's the white with green numbers like Lou had them wear in the Gator Bowl?

Then green jersey in Yankee Stadium vs Army.
