gimmick plays or gimmicks like special jerseys do not make the game crooked. They are designed to give the team using the gimmick an advantage, nothing crooked about that. I just think using the greens has become a pathetic gimmick, it sends the message the team is not good enough. I wish they would let it go.
As for using the greens as an alternate (aka third) jersey, why? Because some other schools (and pro teams) do it? Not a very compelling reason IMO. It does get fans to put out more $$$, which is probably the reason most teams do it.
No, Notre Dame doesn't wear green because other schools do it. What did you think some guy at Adidas thought up the idea in 1998 to sell some jerseys?
We're talking about a tradition that is 90 years old.
The green uniforms were there LONG before the gold helmets.
They were there before the school's first national title.
They were worn before the school's first Heisman.
They were worn before ND Stadium was even built.
Heck, they were there before probably 95% of the game day traditions so many of us hold dear.
It would be a huge injustice to turn our back on this tradition and stop wearing green.
