gimmick plays or gimmicks like special jerseys do not make the game crooked. They are designed to give the team using the gimmick an advantage, nothing crooked about that. I just think using the greens has become a pathetic gimmick, it sends the message the team is not good enough. I wish they would let it go.

As for using the greens as an alternate (aka third) jersey, why? Because some other schools (and pro teams) do it? Not a very compelling reason IMO. It does get fans to put out more $$$, which is probably the reason most teams do it.

No, Notre Dame doesn't wear green because other schools do it. What did you think some guy at Adidas thought up the idea in 1998 to sell some jerseys?

We're talking about a tradition that is 90 years old.

The green uniforms were there LONG before the gold helmets.

They were there before the school's first national title.

They were worn before the school's first Heisman.

They were worn before ND Stadium was even built.

Heck, they were there before probably 95% of the game day traditions so many of us hold dear.

It would be a huge injustice to turn our back on this tradition and stop wearing green.

Not trying to be an ***, but the article says: "Adidas will have the Techfit Irish green jersey ready for the Navy game, Daniels said today." If they can have it ready for the Navy game, they should have it ready for the Army game, which is after Utah. We are away for the Navy game, so I don't know how accurate this is. I think they are misunderstanding something, but that's just my opinion.

With some further thought, maybe Kelly was trying to mislead everyone into thinking it would be for Army, when they planned to wear them against Navy. It would be more "shocking" to the fans when they ran out in them. I'm not sure on the rules, but I am assuming that Navy would simply have to give us the okay to wear our green jerseys instead of white in the away capacity. I think I'm giving too much thought to this.

It is an away team decision, but the NCAA will penalize the away team if they wear anything but their away jerseys. See UCLA vs. USC two years ago. USC wore the red to UCLA who wore their blue as a throwback to old times when they did that each year. USC was fined and lost one time-out in each half.

Not a big deal for USC, but considering Kelly's clock management thus far... yeah.

Thanks for that info CK. I just wanted to point out that Kelly said at today's presser that there are no green jerseys for the game. Someone should write a strongly worded letter to the author of the OP's article.
