Re: rugby. Way back in the stone age of 1960 [or so] I saw one of our first "club" rugby matches on NDs campus ... I was proud of those guys even though I thought they were nuts. It was the Notre Dame Spirit even back then.

In the Iron age of the earliest of the '70's I had a friends on the Rugby team. Off the field they were among the nicest people I knew ... a bit [understatement] on the crazy side and always up for a party. On the field they were the meanest, scrappiest, determined and unrelenting men I've ever known. They were offered a chance to move from club status to "sanctioned" or "sponsored" or some such thing by the powers that be in the University's athletic department. It would have meant reimbursement for equipment and travel, with help in scheduling other schools with rugby teams.

When it came to light that they would no longer be able to have a keg on the sidelines, they opted to retain club status.

Some of the rugby players were also on the lacrosse club team. The teams shared both players and traits.

I'm in a market that ABC/ESPN has decided that the "Holy War" is not worthy/profitable. I do not have a "blessed" (read "paying blood money") internet connection according to ESPN3. I have a Mac so the software for channelsurfing.net gives me no relief.

I really, sincerely and desperately hope that atdhe.net (an adjunct of justin.tv) gets me my live Irish football fix.

"Real" time I cheer and scream at the screen. On delayed replay I simply mutter under my breath. I prefer the cardio workout of seeing the game as it unfolds.

Who's your cable or satellite provider?

I have neither. After decades of paying for cable (under 3 or 4 different owners) my service was absorbed by Comcast. They suck royally. They started stripping my "tier" of channels (they yanked the likes of A&E and a movie channel or two, etc., but left all the shopping networks) while increasing the cost. When they pulled National Geographic and bumped my monthly fee 5 bucks I pulled the plug.

My internet connection is a local Wi-Fi outfit. My computer is a Mac. I'd rather not mount hardware on my roof and drill additional holes in my house – not a wise thing to do in Minnesota – for a dish. Basically I'm a stubborn Irishman, ornery "old" fart and cheap bastard.

I'm not thrilled with the ABC/ESPN tie-in. There will be broadcast crews at both games. Why not just air one game on ABC and pipe the other on ESPN? I can gain access to ESPN via the internet and ABC with rabbit ears.

2 things:

If you can get ESPN3, it lets you watch 4 games at a time in "mosaic view".

If you can't, I was just watching both MSU-UW and UM-IU games on JustinTV.com - had to register, so I'll prob get junk email from them, but it didn't cost anything.
