I think ND will cover the 11. This is going to be a great test for our front 7. As always when playing Navy first down is the key. We need to get them in 3rd and long situations. I think we will see ND go with more athleticism to counter the option. I see Flemming, Neal, and McCarthy having big games for the Irish D.

On offense this is a game for the O-line. We have a huge advantage up front. A heavy dose of Allen and Hughes. Eventually Navy is going to have to bring an extra guy to slow down the run. If that happens Navy will be in trouble, especially if Floyd is back. They will have to pick their poison. Bring a safety and leave Floyd or Tate in man. or bring a backer and leave Rudolph man up. ND will pull away in the second half with big plays in the passing game. This year we finish the job.

Midshipman-17

I like this analysis! Hopefully the D can come through. That would be the only part I question.

I understand the cut block concern if we're talking about KLM but who is going to through a cut block on a WR?

Didnt he get hurt that way last year. Could have sworn one of navy's players went low whe Floyd tried to block

Thanks BGIF... started to irk me...

T'wasn't me. I was just making you aware it had been fixed.

Keep in mind our administrator is a full time ND student in France. Besides his work load, he's in a time zone 6 or 7 hours different from South Bend. Fixes aren't going to be instantaneous no matter how irksome to some but they get done.

No doubt, just making it known to the right people.

This game to me will say alot about the team. Navy is a good/game opponent but Notre Dame injuries and all should get it done against our countries 'finest men'. I respect the heck out of 'em but we should win this game.

Weis was asked in the press conference if outrushing Navy would be a goal of ND's in this game. He repsonded with, "I'd like us to play with Navy's passion."

He went on to explain that for the Academy players, all three Academies, Saturday is the easiest day of the week for them with all they go through 24/7.

Whether it's been Holtz, Davie, Willingham, or Weis Navy never rolls over. They are like the Energizer bunny.

QB Ricky Dobbs, 6-1 194, is the backbone of Navy's offense. He's accounted for:
  • 23% of the Team's Rushing yds,
  • 38% of the Team's Total Offense,
  • 96% of the Team's Passing Yds
He injured a knee in the SMU game and DNP the next week against Wake Forest. Last week in the loss to Temple he had 3 carries for 5 yds and did not attempt a pass.

Kriss Proctor, 6-1, 175 is the backup QB. Last week against Temple, Proctor rushed for 52 yds and threw for 31 yds and an INT.

Vince Murray ran for 115 yds against Temple. It was Murray's 3rd straight game rushing for 100 yds.

Navy rushed for 227 yds against Temple well below their average.

Navy 3 TDs came off a Temple shanked 3 yd punt (Oh Oh!), a fumble recovery, and an INT. For the first time this season, Navy was held without a first half offensive TD.

Meanwhile Temple ran for 274 yds the most rushing yardage Navy has allowed since ND rolled up 280 rushing yds in 2003. Temple's Bernard Pierce, a freshman, ran for 267 yds on a couple of big runs. Temple also had a 100 yd Kickoff Return for a TD.

They are banged up.

Junior quarterback Ricky Dobbs, who did not start the past two games as he rested an injured right knee, will start against the Fighting Irish and "looked great" while running the first-team offense, Niumatalolo said. Dobbs is wearing a neoprene brace to protect his right kneecap, which has a small crack. He said his muscles felt tight while running sprints Monday, but he expects to be able to play at a high level Saturday.

"Whatever I got, I'm giving," Dobbs said.

Weis Press Conference 11/5

Weis Press Conference 11/5

One thing is 100% guaranteed. Navy will play with high effort every single play and in every thing they do. If you don't match that effort every advantage goes out the windows. That is how teams end up getting beat by them.

Onside Kicks:
We had an Onside Kickathon. The kickoff team practiced them, so did the Hands Team.

Injuries:
Trevor will dress. He can play if we need him.
Armando will probably not dress.
Jimmy's fine. He'll be fine to run the operation.
Goody's rusty. We took baby steps with him this week. Goal is by next week he can finish a game.
Kapron's O.K.
Floyd was blocking and hitting the ground multiple times. He got those initial shocks out of the way. He'll be in there plenty. He has fresh legs from not taking the beat down for the past month and a half.

Punting:
Will probably switch to Maust.

Jimmy's Future:
We'll talk in December. Lots of football to be played before then. The only distraction is everyone wants to predict it.

Will you take the ball if you win the coin toss?
You have to make the most of possessions because you'll have less with them. If we don't get the ball at the start we'll get it to start the second half.

Cut blocks:
We practicing them. The linemen have had multiple players throwing them at them.

ND-Navy Predictions

ND-Navy Predictions

ND 41 Navy 20

ND actually will find a way to score a TD on a Punt, Kickoff, or Defense. Tate streaks down the field singing "2 Legit to Quit". Irish Blowout, Navy scores a garage TD.

Navy is tenacious and keeps it close until the 4th quarter, where the improved Irish Defense starts penetrating and disrupting the Navy offense, sealing the game and a well fought victory.

I see Navy hanging in for while, maybe into the 4th qtr. Any team with the 7th ranked run offense, has the power to stay in just about any game. Their running game makes them dangerous.

forget that it is 'Navy'. They are not our 'father's Navy' football team anymore. This is a good team, that needs to be respected.

hopefully Navy's offense wont be able to keep up with our offense, we pull away later in the game. by no means do i see this a cakewalk, and if ND pulls a USC (gets complacent against a perceived lesser team) we will lose this game.

they almost beat Ohio State...they are not afraid of the big stage or the big programs; if we come out flat-footted, Navy is going to win.

Almost wish NDOM wasnt banned so I could see his prediction...

But I'm thinking 38-17. Riddick scores his first TD and Tate has a punt return.

ND shouldn't be punting in this game with their offense. We should be punting unless we have more than 3 yards to go and are inside our own 40. We could have achieved some additional style pints last week but this will be a chance to put NAvy's wrost defeat on them this season. Navy has played alot of teams tough. We should get some respect f we totally dominate them. Leave McCarthy and Segios back and bring the rest and dare them to pass.
.
Where is NDOM? Don't agree with him sometimes but he creates some good buzz (in more ways than one).

ND 45, Navy 14 and we mover to 15.

I don't think the game will get that high. Clock's going to be constantly running. Last week Charile showed that we can pound the rock. Methinks he will do it again against an undersized Navy front.

Dobbs Ready To Play

Dobbs Ready To Play

Navy QB Dobbs is ready to take the field again

November 6, 2009 6:35 PM
ESPN.com Graham Watson

...

Dobbs had missed the previous two weeks after reaggravating a cracked kneecap against SMU on Oct. 17. The injury kept him out of practice and he missed the game against Wake Forest. The few moments he played against Temple was his first live action.

“To walk away and not feel anything with my knee, it was just reassuring that my body was ready to go full speed again,” Dobbs said. “That was the first time I had run full speed since the SMU game. It was definitely reassuring. No pain, tightness, soreness, no nothing. It was just like the way it feels on a normal day. I thought after the game that I was going to be sore from running on it and I was kind of scared that I might pull something trying to play without practicing on it.”

...

Before Dobbs was hurt, he was the Midshipmen’s best source of offense. He’d amassed 584 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He had thrown for 618 yards and three scores. He’d led the Midshipmen back from deficits in several games, including the SMU game, which he played hurt throughout the duration.

...

“Our backs are kind of up against the wall and this is a defining moment for our team,” Dobbs said. “We’ve just have to see what type of team we’re going to be. Are we going to step up to the challenge against Notre Dame? They’re playing real well right now and they’re a real good football team. It’s just all about us and which team is going to come out and be hungry.”
