There are a number of great things to feel good about last night.

As others have said, 2nd quarter play calling was incredible. That quarter, in and of itself, was nothing short of dominating.

Flip side - I have no idea what happens to our team in the third quarter. I don't know if they go in to the locker room and watch cartoons and eat bon-bons, but they come out in the third quarter they don't even look like the same team. Let Chris Zorich give the half time talks, because what the coaching staff is doing now ain't working.

Sam Young - I don't think it is ALL his fault, but he got HANDLED on many occassions last night. It wasn't even the penalties (although a guy who has started every game of his college career should not have that many mental lapses) it is how he just gets abused. They showed one replay last night from behind Jimmy where you see Sam just get moved through the frame like he was a crash test dummy. He looks weak to me - always has. Our whole team looks weak. I have said it for years now and I will continue to say it - Mendoza should have gone with Latina. We look weak and we look like we run out of gas in the second half of games.

Flip side - it was awesome to see T-Rob come over and defend his QB when the guy taunted Jimmy. Too many times in recent years (especially '07) Jimmy would get hit late or whatever, and not one O-lineman would do anything. I don't care if you give up some unsportsmanlike penalties - you have to defend your QB and that was awesome to see T-Rob there.

DB's - look awful. Supposedly a position of strength coming out of summer and they look terrible. Arm tackling is killing us. I am waiting to see a DB lay the wood to someone just once!

D-line is improving - each and every game. We hold one of the top rushers in the country to under HALF his average? Someone is doing something right. I think they are getting better.

That's it. I am out for now. Here's a bowl for you NDOM!!!

We played like shit! The defense SUCKS, Tenuta is SOOOOOOO overrated its pathetic. Will the next defensive coordinator please stand up please stand up. Defensive line SUCKS, Linebackers STINK, Defensive backfield (Which is supposed to be great) Stinks, We ALMOST lost to a Purdue team that lost to Northern Illinois which got beat by IDAHO!!!!! FUCKING IDAHO!

Anyway, Have I told you lately that.......WE GOT LUCKY last night. I'm not going to take anything away from Jimmy cuz he won us the game. Realistically we could be sitting at 1-3 right now but alot of you dont look at it that way. Oh the offensive line SUCKED BALLS last night as well. Sam Young.........(like I said last week and got shit for).......YOU SUCK and may have a seat on the bench please cuz you are one of the BIGGEST FLOPS ever to step foot on Notre Dame.

On the bright side we are 3-1 and Jimmy did what he had to do and congrats to him. He must really love Charlie.........Good thing SOMEONE does cuz I sure as hell dont.

Ndom, youre so predictable, your childish rants of hatred towards the team you supposedly root for are overplayed and obnoxious. please spare us, we've heard it all before.

i was about to go on about last nights game but youre not worth the time. have fun hating charlie.

Ummm yes i can. Purdue had the 2nd leading rusher in the country and they put up 36 on an Oregon team that just HELD CAL TO 3 POINTS.

PA...after I read this, I called my dad to make sure the O2 level in PA air is still ok...

ITS PURDUE...STOP IT!:)

It's funny you mention this 'wildcat shit'. I swear, What's with the sudden popularity of this formation this year? I do not remember a year where 'wildcat' is used so many times in so many games this year. Even in the Miami-VT game that I watched before ND-Purdue.

BACK THE F*CK OFF HIM

CW won without his #1 RB, #1WR, #1QB. I think he did pretty damn good job considering what he was dealt...CW will
NEVER win over some ppl, NEVER.

you should rename this thread 'NDOM's weekly Weis HAte thread'...and just keep adding to it each week, rather than creating new threads

yeah seriously NDOM at first it was fine, now its the same BS every week out of sheer hate. If anyone else was our coach and we ran the wildcat you would be saying how much you loved it and how Charlie never did it. Saying the defense played terrible leads me to believe you didnt watch the game

The defense played much better

Niceto see the young guys like KLM, Ethan Johnson, Te'o, and especially Fleming take a step foreward. These guys have steadily improved each game.

You see NDOM, younger players take time to improve. That is what is called development. It can take a while but you slowly start to see results. Players do not arrive ready for the NFL. When you are dealing with alot of second year players along the front 7, these are signs you have to look for

We should at least be willing to take an objective look at our coaching and how it stacks up against our opponents each week. I would say that we have been outcoached the last 3 weeks. CW puts together moments that impress and as soon as we score 2 in a row somehow the playcalling goes numb. This happened in several games last year (Navy, NC, Pitt, Syracuse) we had leads and sat on them. We look like we're going to run away with these games and we let the other teams back in every single week and I think it has to do with play calling on offense and defense. The reason we're winning some of these games rests on the shoulders of guys like JC, GT and AA. CW has been a great recruiter but something is missing. Stupid penalties are a coaching issue, getting your players fired up is also a coaching issue and somehow
I don't see CW getting his players as focused as they need to be. Too many mistakes with superior talent. If he wins 10 games and does not get blown out I am still Ok with him returning because I think with Floyd, GT, KR, AA and JC out there we have the most potent offense in CFB. Special teams and Defense will require some additional thought.

i'm happy with the win, but seriously how can anybody not see that elliot (poor execution)along with the purdue coaching staff (stupid TO at the end of the game) handed us the game???? jc just took advantage of the situation and pulled out a victory.

after that defensive display last nite, we will be lucky to hold usc, stanford or uw to below 30 something points. keep drinking the kool-aide, there's plenty to be worried about with this defense.

purdue's execution was atrocious and we benefitted from it. don't think that poor execution was due to anything we did on defense.

and as far as cw is concerned, he's the same old inconsistant/predictable self with the play calling. jc is right, weis won't get fired becuz of jc, he'll get fired becuz of himself......if it ever happens.

I have no problem with an objective view of our coaching staff, but saying we "sucked balls" doesnt seem very objective or necessary, it tells me that the person who started this thread isnt very mature.

Now, am i concerned with some of the problems with or team this year? youre damn right i am, super concerned. but last night i saw a coach with a back up qb no rb and his best recieving option out with a broken collarbone , make some pretty ballsy and imo excellent offensive play calls, they only scored once the entire first half, and there is only so many tricky options/wildcat formations you can run before the defense starts to figure it out.

we were basically navy for the time that jimmy sat out until the time jimmy came back in.

i road victory against a rival opponent with a team riddled with injuries is impressive to me, usc couldnt do it! this is a huge win

mick2 you better be careful posting this kind of stuff. I have heard rumors that common sense is contagious and we wouldn't want to take a chance of it spreading.j/k nice post.

All I'm concerned about is ND is 3-1. Despite all the "issues" that various people point out, this team is growing up. I'll give you that Sam has too many procedure penalties and Duval is still dropping passes (is there anybody else we can start?), but this is a good Irish team that was missing a Top 5 WR, a Top 15 RB, and had a QB who was hobbled the whole game. All that and they still pull out a win in a hostile environment. I'll take it. Just get healthy.

One more thing.....well two more things: 1) Charlie needs to learn to go for points, 2) How about a pooch punt every once in a while?

They should've kicked the FG in the 1st half and they should not have gone for it on 4th and 10 with a backup QB. Those are just boneheaded coaching decisions that Charlie needs to stop making. That failed 4th and 10 changed the momentum. Why not make them drive the length of the field, instead of giving them the ball close to midfield?

Other than that, Charlie called a pretty good game. That Wildcat offense gashed Purdue pretty badly in the 2nd qtr. I like that they found a way to win.

Charlie doesn't do everything that I would do, but since my play calling experience, like all of yours, is limited to playstation, I will let him handle it. As for this game, ND went in to a huge Rivals house (maybe not for us, but I promise you it is for them.) in a primetime night game hostile environment and WON!!! What will make you guys happy? The D looked much improved, the guys who filled in stepped up (Hughes looked great), and the drives Dayne came in, especially that first td drive were phenomenally called and executed. Are they perfect? Hell no, but no team is, and this one is going in the right direction, I am sorry but if you didn't see a gritty hard fought win, that our star qb limped in and TOOK from the other team, than you are a glass half empty fan, and I feel sorry for you.

yes it's nice to see that luck gets us the win, but luck will only carry you so far. at some point the defense has to show some improvement, which the dline did......other than that, this defense has problems. tackling is one of the more glaring issues.

We should be ranked in the top ten, and we would be, by gosh, if we didn't have to play such a fierce schedule. We've trounced (OK, squeaked by) MSU (we now know how good they are!) and Purdue (Purdue??), and after we lose to a couple of PAC 10 teams we still gotta face behemoths like Navy, Stanford and UCONN. If the scheduling were only fair, the national championship would be ours!!

People are either completely over exagerrating how good we are or they think our team sucks a**!!!! Is there no in-between? We have a very decent young football team. As of right now we are not an NC title contender and we definitly deserve to be in at least the top 30. We don't know if we should be any higher than the top 15 because there's been no suggestion in the past 4 games weather we should be. We had a big win on Saturday and it helped us drastically get closer to where we need to be.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!

I never like to be negative but this team has not met my expectations and i presume many other people's expectations on this board. I know we are 3-1 but not because we are a great team, because we fought hard games against weak opponents that should have been blown away by half.

Coming into the season we knew the d-line was the weakness but linebackers were good and secondary was projected to be the best in the nation. Well has not happened, our d is improving but at this rate, usc will put us away at half. I don't blame the d problems on the players as much as i do on tenuta's playcalling. I love the aggressive package but it is not being used right. The d is not disguising the blitz/coverage at all. The oline can see who is blitzing and easily block them. Second, the timing of the blitz is not accurate. It may seem odd but if the blitzing linebacker waits for the play to develop a second, he will have a whole to run through for an effective blitz. While we are blitzing the corners should be playing bump and run coverage. We have a secondary that can run with anybody so please stop giving up the short passes all the way down the field! The d-line looked better against purdue but it is purdue. Rotate some players in to keep fresh, these guys aren't asked to make tackles in the backfield, they are told to simply take up a blocker so the linebackers are free to make tackles.

Our offense is great, then Charlie chooses not to keep momentum on our side and calls some dumb plays. What happened to finishing teams by the third quarter? Our offense has did more than pull it's weight and i know the d needs to step up. Against purdue, i think they should of let dayne throw some passes. They could be short drag plays or in the flats but give this kid some confidence that he can actually play. He looked better than jimmy at getting away from pressure with his feet so why run 12 consecutive times? I know it was working but it obviously didn't work that much. They came back. If it weren't for good ole jimmy, we would have lost. Sorry for the yelling just had to get it out. Now my day will be a little better. lol

For all those people who think usc will kill us, please keep in mind that the only time the broke 30 points this year was against San Jose state.

That game is gonna be a Dogfight!

I heard ya, loud and clear. He's done...

There alot of negative people on this board (NDOM, phork, etc....) But they bring something to the conversation, and they also can admit when they are wrong, and they dont throw it in your face when they are right. But This guy just seems to be so condascending to not only ND but to everyone here. There is no place for that.

He's not. He's an SEC windbag who always says the same thing on every post. He just uses 'we' to throw people off. BGIF and I and others busted him up on the SEC schedule on 2 other threads, and he shuts up real quick, only to return with the same stuff on a different thread. He's a poser. I wanted to ban him weeks ago but didn't know how. It's not about being negative...that guy is a troll, plain and simple...
