Despite the score, Miami has real questions, more than us IMO.

- Understand the injuries, but Their pass defense currently may just be bad. Tait Reynolds just put up 300 yards. Gio Lopez threw for over 300 a few weeks ago for Wake as well.

- Run game: weren’t running the ball with success until late in the game when clemson’s D was tired. This has been a recurring theme.

They continue to rack up injuries, much more than us. This is a game we really should win regardless of the home-field advantage. I don’t expect us to have a ton of success running the ball, but CJ should pick them apart if he has time.

Yeah, this was the inverse of our game today.

Clemson made a ton of mental errors and it resulted in the game being more lopsided than it really was. NC had an insane stretch to the end the half and start the 2nd, that made the game closer than it really was.

Clemson's worse than UNC, I don't care about their head to head, that game was determined by Mother Nature giving Clemson a near 3 hour break to regroup.

Speaking of weather, that was the great differentiator in these matchups. There was some rain in Clemson but it was NOWHERE NEAR as bad as it was in Chapel Hill, not even close. That was a great equalizer.

UNC's offense isn't good, but they've got some talent, and their OL isn't a complete, utter dumpster fire like Clemson's is.

It's really amazing how not good Clemson has become. They're basically just another mediocre ACC team at this point. Can't wait to play them every single year in addition to six other ACC teams...

Surely we won't have ACC refs for this game right?

I'm so paranoid about officiating crews that nothing really makes me happy.

I've been reminded here in Virginia with my classmates from around the country that its super common for normie sports fans to really hate Notre Dame. Refs are people too and also have biases.

I refereed hockey at a pretty high level, I would just push back on this by saying I never met another official that had ever said anything remotely close to being personally biased against one team or player or coach in my 14 years wearing stripes.

You kind of shut off that side of your brain when you’re working games and it’s really just the judgement of the outcome of the plays, even though it can definitely appear as though things can end up one sided (there is no basis in “calling it even” sometimes the other team just simply makes more mistakes)

Now all that said, there is a different conversation to be had about direct orders from a conference about certain teams, but it would be wildly irresponsible for the ACC to put out any sort of directive in this fashion in my opinion, especially on paper in any form

It was still 17-6 with 2:00 left in the 3rd. Clemson was capable on defense v Miami but the offense was bad and missed opportunities. Even so statistically the game was closer than the score.

74% of Mensah’s passes against Clemson were under 10 yards, he was pressured on 40% of dropbacks and Toney had only 1 catch on Clemson star Ashton Hampton - 40 yards on the night

Impressive on one hand to still win by 30, but the bones weren’t great against the first real defense

Aggressive man prioritizing underneath with safety help over top. No deep crossers since OL was awful.

Any of you follow Coach Vass on X? He had an article called "Cover 1 Double #1" on a website but the website is down. Put Moore on their number 2 and special coverage on Toney. Article was more detailed but awesome

The Patriots used to do this against Tyreek Hill when he was with KC.

Vass talked about doing it at the high school level against a stud WR. His Qb was some guy named Jayden Daniels...

But yup. Took ideas from NFL and CFB. Think Patriots were discussed in the article

As for Miami:

1. They were one of the least-injured teams last year, and that is now regressing back towards the mean. They are banged up.

2. Their offensive line has not been good. They continue to shuffle guys between guard positions, and while their tackles have great pedigree, they've struggled.

3. Mensah is good, but he is not the all-world QB he was made out to be to start the season. He very frequently panics if his first read is not there, and I've actually been pretty unimpressed with his pocket awareness in general.

4. Their pass defense has been mediocre. They lost their best corner first game of the season, and he's always been an injury risk. They can't seem to find any answers in that area.

5. It's still going to be a close game. Miami has one of the best rosters in college football and their talent is scary if they "get right." Obviously the injuries impact that, but I still think it will be a tough game.

Wasn’t sure where to put this, so I’ll put it here.
This popped up on Facebook memories. 14 years ago, ND vs Miami at Soldier field. I was given front row seats. Alex Flanagan was stationed right in front of us. The camera man kept telling me that she wasn’t interested. Apparently I tried to get her number. I don’t remember because my body weight was 15% alcohol at that point.

What position did he play? I don't remember him.

Hopefully this year's game is as cold as it was in Chicago back then. I loved nothing more than seeing the Miami players bundled up on the sideline just counting the minutes until they could go back inside.

We were on the Miami side. They were miserable. The wind chill was low 30s.

I was there and yeah… it was the coldest I’d personally ever been… they walked out the tunnel and you could see the body language from the the stands, ‘fuck this’ basically covers it
I watched from home, comfortably at home.
I think it was Spencer Hall at the old EDSBS who had a theory that the coach (and by extension the players) who had the most cold weather gear on was far more likely to lose a cold/wet weather game.
That was definitely in play for that game.

That was a Gregg Easterbrook staple in his Tuesday Morning Quarterback column.
