I'll just say this. To be fair, the average democrat/classic liberal has plenty of love and appreciation for our country. This obviously includes the ones on here.

It's the hard left, and those who cater to it, who hate it and want to burn it down.

It was real cool seeing the rest of the world wish us happy birthday. Our country is great, warts and all.

Weak and lazy take... Let's see, maybe some folks don't like seeing this country's Constitutional Republic being eviscerated in real time right before their very eyes by the current admin.
I appreciate you starting my morning off with a good laugh.

Why are you proud to be an American? Because of government? Because of politicians?

Do you think that on 9/11 we came together as a country because of government policies we agreed or disagreed with? It’s a lazy take to blame one administration for your hatred for this country. It’s no secret the left hates this country and it’s no secret why… and it’s not because this administration.

Let's address each statement point by point...

It's because I love our country and democracy / constitutional republic that I take issue with the current admin; not because they're Republican, not because they're MAGA, not because of Trump, and not because I hate the country. I'm simply calling what I see happening and you can deny that all you want with all the "your hatred for this country" silliness all you want, but that won't change what's happening and how a lot of Americans and myself feel about the authoritarian direction its going.

It’s no secret the left hates this country and it’s no secret why
That's a broad statement and assumption; and I consider myself an independent voter btw. Please do let us in on your big "secret" Why?

and it’s not because this administration.
Really? Then why is it? And it's not just the "administration," it's their actions to destroy our Democracy and functioning government of checks and balances, and they're doing this because they don't ever want to see another party in power - Democrats, Independents, a new American party, The He Man Women-Hating Party, etc... They (this coalition of Heritage Foundation, Christian Nationalists, Racists/Xenophobes, Uber-rich Tech Bros.) want complete control. Please tell me what is to "love" about that? That's Authoritarianism and not Democracy and freedom. Wake up.

You’re moving the goalposts. You take issue with the current administration, cool. What’s that have to do with being proud to be an American? You disagree with the administration which makes not proud to be an American? How fickle and flakey of you.

You’re taking this personal and it’s cute. I don’t care what you are or why. It’s not my secret, just open your eyes.

Blah blah, I’ll be honest, I read the first 2 sentences. I’ll say it again… if you are not proud to be an American because of an administration you are a fickle snowflake that hates this country. There will be good and bad administrations that come and go… you chose how much power they have over you. I love my country and I can disagree with it all day but still proud to be an American because of the people that have fought for it and my right and freedom to be here in this free country and post politics on a college football message board with Americans that aren’t proud of its own country because of things. Wake up.

1) Never said I wasn't proud to be an American... In fact, 2) it's that pride that allows me to criticize the current admin -- Right? So bugger off with your "fickle fackle" bullshit.

Head in the sand and up your ass reply comment. 1) It's precisely because those folks have fought for the country and our FREEDOM that I'm critical of the current admin because they are destroying that freedom and our democracy. 2) LOL - That's right, I choose to prefer a democratic power that presides over a free republic and not an Authoritarian state, and if we all shrug our shoulders like you and say, not my problem, I love this country, well, then we're all in trouble and we're all enablers or our own demise. Sorry, you might call me an Alarmist but calling what I see and these things don't happen overnight, but things are moving fast and in the wrong direction.
... freedom to be here in this free country and post politics on a college football message board with Americans that aren’t proud of its own country because of things. Wake up.

Funny you say this... remember this is an anonymous board but if this commentary were on public social media, you might just get a knock on your door from FBI agents - it's happening regularly now to anyone posting anything critical of the admin, so yes, wake TFU.

Don't understand you're binary statement - So if you criticize the way America is currently being run (but I would say the current situation is much more dire than that - It's the outright theft of our Democracy!), then you're the poster boy for "Americans who aren't proud of their country."

What gives? Where does this insane logic come from? Complete obedience and compliance = 100% proud American. GTFO with that shit.

Maybe you just don’t understand the conversion. I’m talking about the whole context of the conversion, not sure what you are talking about. You can critique all you want. But what you are doing is boot lick the people who admit they are not proud to be American. You are defending them. Criticize all you want, that is a whole different conversation than just hating your country… those are the the people you are defending and you’re blaming this administration for people losing their patriotism. You love the country (you say) but are doing a fine job defending the blue hairs that don’t.

No, I do understand, you have a strict two-dimensional black/white, Repub/Dem, Capitalist/Commie (latest one), Patriotic/Flag Hating viewpoint that you can't comprehend what I'm saying... I'm not talking about a simple political debate about policy choices and I'm not defending anyone - I'm saying that people have a reason to be upset with their country right now; I'm talking about the dismantling of our Democracy so that an authoritarian faction that calls themselves "Republicans" can have complete control to transition the country into a Techno Theocracy - That's what I'm talking about which is on a completely different plane than your binary one.

So sure if you're referring to the silly Gallup/NBC poll, that's just those frustrated Americans expressing themselves - Sorry, I don't equate those poll numbers to mean only 29% of those Democrats who responded "hate" their country - IMO, they're expressing their displeasure with HOW the current admin is acting and therefore the way America is being perceived around the world and will be perceived historically. Those expressed numbers don't mean they "hate" America, but we can agree to disagree. Move on...

One in 10 is a massive number IMO. sad.

if you think this admin is bad - don’t look at the Patriot Act, MK Ultra, Ruby Ridge, weaponizing the IRS, drone striking US citizens, warrantless search and seizure, you can keep your doctor, if I had a son he’d look like Trayvon, Joe Biden wasn’t the first to pretend to be president or the entire history of the FBI and CIA. Run down a J Edgar Hoover rabbit hole for a minute or two and tell me how muh Democracy is at risk!

FFS there is plenty to criticize from admins on both sides of the aisle eroding our freedoms and abusing power. Look past your fucking nose before getting apoplectic over Trump.

Moot point in my opinion. They have tracked this poll since 2000. It was very high across the board. There has been a steady decline since then for the democrats. We can blame Trumps administration buts its declined just as much under Obama and Biden.

Salient point in my opinion because it highlights that declining from extremely patriotic to a little or somewhat patriotic is not synonymous with transitioning from extremely patriotic to hating America as some would paint these numbers.

Dems went from 85% at the beginning of Obamas terms to under 60% at the end, it further declined under Biden. Further with Trump.

My point with Warrior isn’t necessarily the poll itself, it’s his false assumption it’s all about Trump. It’s been on the decline long before Trump and it’s just continuing its “natural” regression with the Democratic Party.

Like RDU pointed out… we have survived some bad presidencies and some hard times and bitter times over the past 250 years… we can argue over defining “somewhat” vs “extremely” but we will get lost in the weeds… it’s the WHY, we should be focusing on. Why did we from 85% under Obama to 60% at the end of his terms? Why did it just dip further with Biden and why does it continue to dip? Dems have get to redefine words, white man is the oppressor, they have drag queen shows for toddlers, furrys killing Christian conservative icons, Muslims are making inroads in American spaces even in government, socialists voted in recently, Israel is the most hated they have ever been inside the US… dems have a lot to love but still don’t.
