Found something interesting when we talk about what is the secret sauce. Indiana is somewhat unique in that they have 4 coaches for the DL and DBs. Normal is 2 - 3. They have a DEs, DTs, CBs and Safeties Coach. Haines coaches the LBs. Is being hyper prepared really as simple as more coaches? IUs defense specializes in stunts and coverage disguises

I believe Clemson had separate DT and DE coaches during their big run, idk who else has done that since

You have to think from a time management standpoint alone it is beneficial for them in terms of efficiency. So long as there is good communication and cross functionality among all those guys, it's probably awesome for the players in terms of development.

I think adjusting assistant coaching allotment should probably flow with trends in the game. Back in the day lots of teams had separate ILB and OLB coaches, but with a trend toward playing more nickel, you could probably take the OLB spot and add an additional DB coach or DL coach.

Depends on what you're primarily doing up front.

If you base out of an Odd front, you need to split the OLB/ILB because the technique is different worlds. If you're primarily Even, you eliminate that spot and go Nickels/CB's and Safeties (or however you want to split the secondary in half.)

Yep, he has reviews built into his contract, so if things go well, he get pretty much a certain bump; I think it can go the other way as well if IU's season lags, but he hasn't had to worry about that to date at IU.

Never been to a game there but from pictures it looks like a generic stadium option from NCAA football on the Wii

They are doing the complete opposite of Clemson, embracing the new landscape and going hog wild in it.

I think IU can do this for a long time seeing their commitment to it.

exactly. Indiana has been to the playoffs twice and won once. They need to do a lot more before they join the ranks of the football powers. Now if Cig stays and IU keeps spending the money it is quite possible in this day and age for it to happen. We will see

I'd tend to agree, but a cocky mfer's "standard" just resulted in one of the best seasons this century, so I'm not surprised he is making an example out of his $2M transfer WR not meeting it. I also don't know how clearly Marsh had been told not to wear gold cleats.

IU feels like a program if they don't make the semis next year, the shine comes off and they can go back to being a solid, not great, team under Cignetti. It will be interesting to see how they fair now that teams are going to copy the model of grabbing the best experienced players from "lesser" programs. The pool just got a lot smaller now that more big money teams are fishing in it versus going after younger highly recruited players that weren't happy with their playing time.

Way too early for that talk but he has already accomplished things that Saban couldn’t. He’s won the B1G championship and a NC for a program that used to dwell in the cellar of the B1G. Saban never did those things despite coaching a traditional power in the B1G.

Their evaluation model seems to look at actual football production, especially in the portal, and not stars or potential. I think it gets overlooked but maybe I'm wrong.

Hard for me to sit here and say this won't last when nobody thought it was going to get this far. 2024 was a fluke. Then 2025 happened, now that's a fluke. It went from one year wonder to two year wonder, and in year three there really is only one way to go and that would be down after a 15-0 season.

I just know the last team to beat them. If there is one thing I'll make sure to keep fresh in anyone's mind on said subject, it's that.

I don't think anyone can question how good of a coach Cignetti is at this point nor his methods. IU had nothing from a football perspective sense historically and he brought them a title quickly in arguably the toughest sport to do it. Him and Cuban is a combination that will deliver a good potentially great team for a while.
