In the midst of all this, anyone curious how Brendan Vernon and Devon Houston are still on the ND roster?
They're not going to kick them off the team. I'm sure they're valuable practice players and probably good citizens. Maybe one/both could even be a contributor for us next season.

But why be here unless they just really like the degree, which is possible? I'm looking at it from their perspective not ND's.
If my son were a scholarship football player at Notre Dame, with no NFL prospects, I would strongly encourage him to stay at least until he graduated, vs. transferring to, I dunno, Bowling Green, just so he could play on Saturdays. Bowling Green will still be there when he has his degree.

Tyler Stockton was in the same boat as Houston and Vernon and he could be a future HC some day

They can’t land Sanders and McKinney without someone (Sanders, McKinney, Moore, Gray) being told they are playing nickel. I just don’t see it though in any of them.
Moore is NOT playing Nickle. If so, Mickens lost his fuckin' mind.

Freeman embarrassed him, and every other beat guy, when they were claiming Minchey was QB1. Now he has to shit on every portal addition ND gets. But Cincinnati had a GREAT portal season!
There has long been talk that Porter would require an undisclosed surgical procedure in the winter / spring. This isn't new...

My take is that both want their degrees. From everything I've heard, neither has a serious chance of playing professional football. Both are probably getting bare minimum (if anhthing) in Rev Share, while ND honors their scholarships and let's them be ND students. They're essentially glorified walk-ons at this point. As long as both are good teammates, they're not hurting anyone.

Yeah, maybe Partridge can get something out of them. Sometimes a different coach really helps.

4 for 40

They have struggled they probably know that their football careers are over once college is done. They are getting a great education and taking their REV sharing money that they get and can start preparing for life.

The reality is an overwhelming majority of college football players will never sniff the NFL. The smart kids are still trying to get the best degree they can even if means passing up $50K a year in NIL, which is what most kids are getting.

I actually might argue the inverse, some players know they may never sniff the NFL, so they are trying to maximize their NIL right now to get a head start on life. If you can get another half-million or million over your NIL career, that's a big difference if you're smart (that's asking a lot of these kids and their uncles though).
