I think people are antsy because the window to get an extension done pre-NFL calendar is roughly the window of time that we are currently in. Everything I heard from people who would know basically said that this week pre-Christmas is when you would expect something to be signed / announced. This goes back to when ND was supposed to be in the playoffs and people were saying that a contract extension would get done between the end of the season and the first playoff game similar to last year. It's possible you still see something this weekend or next week. The longer this drags on, the more people are going to speculate and question whether there is some snag in the negotiations or if he wants to wait and see which NFL teams might be interested. Is what it is. I think it's most likely a case of neither side being in a rush and trying to hammer out specific clauses / language. But people are going to keeping wetting the bed until given a reason not to.

I also think that all of the writers going "oh it'll be any day now" are likely correct but also strictly basing this opinion on what the ND side is saying not anything from the Freeman end of things. I say this because they have been intentionally vague and many of them wrong for awhile now.

That’s what has me wondering what happens if Day wins another one? Regardless of what we as ND fans think about the guy, he’s & his family have probably put up w/ some stupid shit from Buckeyes fans. Whether he’s a fit for the NFL (I tend to think he’s not but they hired his old mentor multiple times & I didn’t think that was a good fit), that would have to be the next mountain to climb for him professionally, right?
