I think you might see near 100% overhaul on the defensive side of the ball.

I can't imagine leaving ND for an ACC bottom feeder like BC, that can't be good for your job prospects even if it's technically an upgrade on paper. That's like resigning as ND DC to become the HC of UConn...yeah, it's sort of a step up, but you're also setup to fail and are probably looking for a new job in 3 years or sooner.

I agree with Lax. I wouldn't be surprised to see a very different looking defensive staff by the spring. Hopefully they do everything they can to keep Mickens but you can only hold on to him for so long

Ash included or excluded? Others may have said it, but 2026 should be Mickens's Magnum Opus of a secondary. I think he needs to hold tight for one more year. There's never a great time to leave, but with 10 starters returning and ton of depth, it feels like the worst time for any of these coaches to leave out of the foreseeable next few years. ND is in reloading mode, but it may be a while before we see a defense as experienced and filled with NFL draft picks as next year's.

I can't speak for Lax, but I doubt it includes Ash. You just signed the dude and the D was playing lights out after a bad start.

After the story about how he spent the entire season basically away from his family, I could see him maybe trying to get a job in the Florida area. I hope not, but can't imagine it's easy being away. hopefully, he gets the battery recharged too the next few months.

Also, would've never thought I'd say the last part after week 3 this year.

Pat Kuntz time?
Coach O available, only half kidding
Terrance Jamison is highly thought of. He's Co-DC / DL Coach at Illinois. Played at Wisconsin, where he received two degrees. He bounced around for a bit until landing at Illinois in 2021.

Roc Bellantoni at Auburn can also coach DL.

Ash. They mentioned it during one of the broadcasts. He's in SB and his family is still down in FL.
I get not moving your family for potentially a one-year gig, but Notre Dame's a pretty good job, Jacksonville's pretty far away, and from what they showed on TV his kids are pretty young. Maybe just plan on being here for a bit?

If Washington leaves, Nick Eason from Clemson should be one of the first calls. Solid coach and recruiter.
Played and coached in the League, too. He's got a Super Bowl ring.

He's got a pretty big salary, so this would be a big move. That's swinging for the fences and then some.

Tre Reader expected to join Bullock at MSU due to ND's hiring freeze, but that is just their guess.
