No argument, i was just proving your comment with numbers. Also, I simply went with the attendance recorded by ESPN for each game. A lot of the duke games had less than 20k as the recorded number. Not sure if that's is tickets sold or butts in seats, but it was reported as attendance.
The fact that the winner of the ACC had less fans in attendance than my lowly Blue Hens did in 1AA is absolutely asinine. What a joke

Jack tried to keep us independent as long as he could.

He did the ACC tie-in to keep us independent in football but allow us to have a reasonable schedule as it was getting harder and harder to schedule.

The items that contributed to the problems back 15 years ago have only gotten worse. So no, I don't believe we can do it again unless we want half of our schedule be group of 5 teams.

This

We can wax poetic about being Independent in football, but we really aren't anymore. At last not fully Independent. Not since Jack made the ACC deal.

And at this point, our options seem to be:

1) Stats quo for as long as the ACC is willing and/or until the ACC implodes. This option is no longer desirable to either side. If it continues it's because it's the easiest option for us to fill a schedule and the financial benefits to the ACC outweigh the beatdowns we give them.

2) Join the ACC as a full member. Hard pass.

3) Join the SEC as a full member. Hard pass after what has transpired

4) Join the B1G as a full member. It's the least objectionable realistic option.

Organize a mini "Frozen Four" for this month and January.

ND invites BYU, Vanderbilt and Texas. Winner of the two games play in a final "bowl" or whatever you want to call it.
I know it would never happen but this would be nice and screw ESPN out of all the proceeds by having it on NBC or Fox

Last year I was at Duke vs SMU - "official" attendance was 30,241 versus capacity of 35,018 thanks to replacing 5000 endzone seats with an open terrace. Place was half empty, no way +80% of seats were filled.

Maybe this is how to fix bowl season. The next 6 bowls have a 2nd tier playoff. Yeah, nobody wants to play in the NIT, but at least the games would be decent matchups instead of mid level 6-8 win teams.
Citrus Bowl (Orlando, FL)
Holiday Bowl (San Diego, CA)
Gator Bowl (Jacksonville, FL)
Alamo Bowl (Houston, TX)
Las Vegas Bowl (Las Vegas, NV)
Outback/ReliaQuest Bowl (Tampa, FL)

For sure.

And, it would be an adjustment.

But, at least there are a lot of traditional rivals in the B1G and it's a good landing spot for the other sports. Lax and basketball would still be in a highly competitive conference.

Ironically, the ACC let ND down by having laughingstock non-competitive teams. The reason ND's SOS was low was because, BC, Stanford, Syracuse etc were a joke this year. So this stupid scheduling agreement is literally the worst of both worlds. We prop them up and they drag us down while simultaneously trying to cut us out at our knees.

Zero credit for emasculating ACC runner up Pitt while the entire SEC points at their Tennessee wins as some world beater accomplishment.

We look up to the ACC............Because they let us down.

DP : “nothing in those rooms stay a secret and where Alabama was concerned my source told me Notre Dame was being set up for disappointment.”

that’s a pretty big bomb shell….as I said before moving Bama last week was all a protective measure to get them in no matter what.
Sounds like a RICO case

Everyone bitching and moaning that Notre Dame isn't in a conference. If ND pulled others schools together to form a new conference as several in this thread have suggested, the bitching would go through the roof. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it! lol

BTW.....I'm still pissed.

Yeah, moving Alabama up after that Auburn game of all things was the most obvious ploy to protect Alabama imaginable. There was zero justification for it and that's why there will never be a good answer for it, because they can't give an honest answer. As soon as UVA threw a pick on that asinine trick play in OT, they knew what they were going to do, they only "deliberated until 2:30 in the morning," so they could try to come up with a rationale for it all.

The whole 15 minute preface to the rankings reveal was to lay the groundwork for the screwjob in the public's mind by reiterating what a "difficult decision" it was. It wasn't a difficult decision, at all. Any non-ESPN employee or SEC affiliated hack would tell you that Miami and ND were the obvious choices.

Looking back, they telegraphed it the whole time and it makes me wonder how far down they filter out these talking points because this year I started hearing terminology coming from ESPN people but also non-ESPN affiliated podcasters like Clay Travis, Pate and J.D. Pickell, specifically such terms as referring to Alabama as the "#1 seed" in the SECCG, referring to CCGs a "bonus game" (or Pickell's favorite term, "extra credit"), the way the last week Alabama's win over UGA in Athens was referred to constantly as "the best win the country by any team."

It all just felt very coordinated and it felt like there was an ecosystem that extended beyond just ESPN. And it flowed both ways. By yesterday you had the CFP committee chair using Miami media douchebag talking points in their justification for swapping us with Miami.

OK?

I think the original point stands that ND brings many fans over what most ACC usually gets. Which is all the numbers were showing.

Seeing him post this made me block him. What a disingenuous prick with his buddy buddy vernacular. Insufferable

Watched Pete on the Dan Patrick show. Illuminating with his the ACC comments:

"We were mystified by the ACC actions against their biggest business partner in football"
"I wouldn't be honest Dan, if I didn't say they had done permanent damage to the relationship between the conference and Notre Dame."
"It raised a lot of eyebrows here that the conference chose to take shots at us."

Listening to the Dan Patrick interview and I remembered that the SEC and the B1G are currently figuring out the future playoff structure. Just them. When Pete talks about the MOU coming out of negotiations, it sounds like he may be describing what ND got for agreeing to let the big boys make the big decisions.

I believe to stay independent, ND must have a viable path to the national title. Jack maintained a path in the 12 team cfp by agreeing to no byes. Ensuring ND is locked in if they are in the Top 12, seems like one way Pete is ensuring the path remains.

Jeez, they're going to need a presidential motorcade for those ACC officials to get in and out alive next year.

The jaded part of me just thinks that the committee will invent a way to put ND at the 13 spot or something in the future if there is external pressure.
