ESPN has a lot more incentive to make sure the SEC keeps playing their conference championship game, which would’ve gone away if Bama got left out. ESPN is also the ACC’s broadcast partner. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what happened here.

ESPN would gladly trade the SEC championship game for an expanded playoff with no G5 representation.

This was done last week with moving Bama in front of ND. Committee and ESPN knew Bama was struggling and was set up to get waxed by UGA. Leaving them behind ND basically guaranteed ND a spot in the field. Moving ahead and shouting all week champ games don’t matter assured Bama’s spot.
