I still think it comes down to how well Mendoza plays against the real deal D. He struggles mightily against Penn State and Iowa. Runs up numbers playing from ahead against sub par teams. Carr is a better draft prospect. The Heisman committee should want a winner who is not another wash out in the Pros. Love is your best bet for a high draft pick and successful career at the next level and btw the best player in CFB. Mendoza would be another John Huarte at best in the NFL. Mendoza is Gino Torreta 2.0
Love has the backstory and stayed loyal to his team. These guys jumping around winning on a stacked team is BS. ND could have given the ball a lot more to Love but they didn’t do anything to pad his numbers or change their game plan. I would say Denbrock that dipshit did Love and ND no favors with 10 Carrie’s against Miami. Huge audience. Put that game in Denbrock 100%.
Allow me to play devil's advocate.
- Just as easily, you could say Love padded his numbers against sub par teams. You have to take into account the entire body of work.
- The Heisman isn't about projecting who might have the best pro career. I haven't done any research, but I would guess most Heisman winners pro careers don't come close to their collegiate career.
- After awarding the Heisman to Johnny Football, I would say the voters don't really care about back stories, character, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I will be as happy as everyone else if he wins. I just think some voters will only see his stats against Stanford and not know the entire story.
