I have no idea how it will work out but always felt like Luck would hire someone he could have control over and from the NFL. Former Stanford teammate that is only a QB Coach at the NFL level is exactly that

I'm still hearing some credible sources say that Lane is waiting to see what happens in the Iron Bowl tomorrow and if DeBoer and Bama decide to see other people. If so, he'll turn LSU down regardless of their offer, and head to Tuscaloosa as if Archibald's was giving away free ribs.
I don't buy this. These are huge contracts, and an AD doesn't make such a decision on just one game.

If it happens, it would certainly be based on a lot more than one game. One game doesn't get a coach fired. It's just the straw that broke the camel's back. DeBoer may be a great coach, but it's not clear that he's the right coach or a good fit at Bama. As I said earlier, the problem for Bama fans is the inconsistency and losing to teams we should be dominating. We know we're gonna get beaten by good teams sometimes - that's just football. We're pissed at the losses to mediocre or even bad teams when we show up looking completely unprepared and playing like the whole team has the flu. Maybe he'll work out, but a loss to Auburn tomorrow and there will be a lot of fans and power brokers who are ready to move on.

They’re not losing to Auburn. All the hype about rivalry weekend shaking things up & I could see every game going chalk.

If true, I mean ND might as well just give Freeman like a 6 year extension at $20M/yr.

If I recall it was believed that his salary was approximately 9.5 to 10 million a year. If we bump his salary to 14ish, raise the assistant coaches pay and make sure we have a very good relationship with the admittance office, he would be very happy.

If Freeman is getting $10M a year he’s vastly under paid and will either be getting a raise or probably here another year. He’s worth double that.

Florida fans are in a full on meltdown that they botched the Kiffin hire.

Reports that one of their big boosters posted something about wanting choice #2 not #1 (Kiffin) and they gave Kiffin a deadline of today.

Seriously, I’m happy for them. I just don’t think he’s a great coach nor a classy guy. I think, long term, they are better to order off the fresh menu rather than a guy looking for his 5th college stop.

Well to be fair to them, their AD is one of the worst in the country. The epitome of doing less with more and has botched multiple HC hires now, has helped to fuck their baseball program, and nearly fucked their basketball program but fell ass backwards into a great hire there.

For the UF fans and networks I'm plugged into it was more of optics war. Getting left at the altar by a coach with decent ties to UF (wife is an alum, his children's grandfather was a prominent UF alum as well) for LSU doesn't sit well with them. If Lane ends up staying at Ole Miss I don't think they'll crash out quite as hard.

I do agree though that Lane is not really a surefire hire. I mean he could end up crashing out at LSU (if he goes) like he did at USC. He could do well and maybe he has "grown up," but it sort of feels like he's an addict who has found a place of zen and is risking trading that all in to chase another high.

When does this end? If every other Big Ten college wants to show their coach, either New or existing, how much they value him by making him the next highest paid coach, where does this go? Everyone’s just gonna continually one up the next. The money has to come from somewhere. Same with paying these recruits $10 million. It’s just insane. It going to get to the point where the only people that can go to football games are wealthy people and that’s just not right. I know this doesn’t sound very American, but there has to be caps put in place with serious consequences for backdoor shady breaking. It’s just a flipping sport.

A lot of (fake) insiders saying today will be chaos, what is the most realistic chaos that doesn’t involve Freeman?

I say Lincoln lied through his teeth and heads somewhere is one

Where would LR go? He’s clearly scared of competition or any place with high expectations. That leaves out the SEC or Big 10. Some big 12 school? Has Oklahoma State hired anyone?

DeBoer isn’t leaving irrespective of the Iron Bowl outcome.

Riley - who cares? I don’t think he’s a winner wherever he’s coaching.

I think Lane is in a no win situation and that’s ironic given the amount of money being tossed around. It’s LSU or stay at Ole Miss IMO. I am betting he bolts for Red Stick because he believes he can win a natty there.

Yeah. I suspect Riley would love an easier road than USC. But Florida ain’t that. If Texas Tech were to open, maybe.
