Goodness gracious. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may Perpetual Light shine upon him.
I mostly agree with this, i would add though, it's more than just freeman ( i know that's obvious but it needs to be out front). I was very tough on freeman as DC and part of his first 2-3 years as HC. I think he absolutely is the right CEO for this program, but I still do not think he's a great X's and O's, scheme guy. He has been able to attract talent at coordinator and position coaches most years, that has to continue. We can't have years with Parker as OC or an equivalent DC, or Stuckey as WR coach. So, ND not only will need to pay Freeman big $$$, but it can't come at the expense of paying the other coaches the same or less when they leave to replace them. We'll need to pay big $$$ for the entire coaching staff. On ISD Power Hour, Mike said the going rate for Kiffen is going to be around $17M/year. If that comes to fruition it may seem crazy, but I've long thought the top coaches are underpaid no matter what you pay them. If $10M is the fixed going rate, getting, say, LSU to the playoffs for an additional $7M is a no brainer.
All that to say, I trust Notre Dame understands what it has in Freeman. You can't overpay Freeman, we haven't had one like him since the early 90s and I presume he's more desired by ND than even Holtz. Whatever comes Freeman's way needs a rubber stamp to match and extend. We have a perfect thing going and it could be decades or lifetimes until we get it right again.
The average NFL coach makes about $13m/yr.
The highest paid NFL coach is Andy Reid at like $20m/yr.
NCAA coaches' pay would be on par with the NFL if they start bumping up to $17m/yr.
Sheesh.
Humble dude. Again, let’s win that Natty and put up the statue. Thank you again BK for paving the way and hiring Freeman. It’s always a good time to be a ND fan, but now it’s a great time.
I don't mean they should or shouldn't be that level. Just perspective. But look at the ROI if you truly feel you have a top 5 coach.
This here would suggest that 10 of the 32 NFL coaches make $13 million or more. The median NFL coach salary is $10 million. In other words there are a bunch of college coaches now who make as much or more than half of the NFL guys. I saw something when he was fired that suggested Brian Daboll with the Giants was making like $4 million. Peanuts! The average NFL coach makes about $13m/yr.

Kiffin might get 17 million a year for winning a natty. He's not getting that as his base annual salary. On ISD Power Hour, Mike said the going rate for Kiffen is going to be around $17M/year. Yeah he was definitely the most sought after DC in the country because he wasn't great at X's and O's. For sureI think he absolutely is the right CEO for this program, but I still do not think he's a great X's and O's, scheme guy
Yes, that was Pitt. My girlfriend was one of the medical folks who jumped in to help. She's an NP, so the doctor really took charge. They were trying to locate the doctor at one point, as I understand it. Unfortunately, they didn't exchange names.I think that was at Pitt -- a ND fan saved a Pitt fan's life. Could be wrong tho...
He may get north of $10- $11 but I can't see 8-10 years. 5-6 is more realistic.If I'm ND I'm offering Freeman 14.5-15 Million a year at 8-10 years.

Because both are beyond idioticWith talk of 50 year mortgages becoming reality, why not a 30 year contract?

The thing is, i don't think he'd want a statue of himself anywhere. That's the kind of person he projects himself to be. Not that he'd have a choice, but he would not encourage it or want it I'd be willing to bet.
Everything that he is in public is truly as good as it gets. If he is half the person he projects himself to be, he's as awesome as they come. For all the talk of him being a young player's coach, he's pretty damn old school too.
I won't lie or try to rewrite history (though I wasn't a poster here at the time) but losing to NIU at home in year 3 did make me wonder if he was really the right guy long term. Very happy to have those concerns answered having everything look up for ND.Not everyone loves him. There were plenty of posters on IE that wanted him gone for every misstep along the way. It’s pathetic bed wetting at its finest.

Cigantti and Elko are at 13 million it’s gonna be more than bothHe may get north of $10- $11 but I can't see 8-10 years. 5-6 is more realistic.
Could be, but I would be surprised if the contract was more than 5-6 years.Cigantti and Elko are at 13 million it’s gonna be more than both
I’m just trying to figure out where Cigantti is coaching.Could be, but I would be surprised if the contract was more than 5-6 years.
Then why not just say “ya know Marcus, we understand the job you have done for us here, and in turn that has made you a very desirable candidate to any team in the country looking for a coach right now. We want to be very clear with you that if you ever decide to leave Notre Dame it will not be because of money. We will not make an offer to extend you right now, but just know that whatever anybody offers you, we will exceed their offer immediately. That is what we think of you as a person and as our head coach.”If I'm ND I'm offering Freeman 14.5-15 Million a year at 8-10 years.
