Alabama wins out, BYU and Utah lose in regular season, Ole Miss/OU/Oregon win out would be not ideal.
Even then, I think comparative performance by us and Miami would still be factored in. If Miami struggles and eeks out wins in their last two games and we hammer both of ours, I'm not sure how you consider Miami to be in our "tier" or whatever.

I don't think that's the takeaway. Right now the committee doesn't see ND and Miami as being comparable teams, so the H2H doesn't enter into it. That's also what is getting lost in all the whining from the Miami dopes. I don't know that Miami has anything left on the table to change that perception, and if either lose another game it's all moot.
Yep, BYU, Bama, Utah would all have to evaporate for ND to get compared head to head with Miami. What he was saying was that ND is in a tier with Oklahoma and Bama then there is a gap and then Miami is in a tier with the Big 12 teams and Vandy.

ND really wants BYU and Utah to win out in the regular season

Yeah, I’m not sure how any ND fan could feel “confident” right now that if Miami and ND both finish 10-2 and Miami blows out Pitt that ND would stay ahead of Miami on the final ballot.

Who knows with this committee, but that answer by the chair didn’t leave me feeling great.
Plenty of football left.

I don’t disagree, but how stupid is that.

“Ah. Well ND was a few spots above Miami. But now a few teams have lost, and Miami is right behind ND, so they also get to leapfrog ND.”

This is a really fuckin dumb system, for a lot of reasons.

Ok.. so has anyone done the math to see if there’s any way we get left out at this point?

Assuming we win the next two convincingly..
I don't want to put it out there, but it's really just injuries to key player(s) a la FSU 2 years ago. Otherwise, if your last statement holds, ND will not be left out. The committee has put their cards out that they see ND as solidly in the field based on current form, and convincing wins doesn't change that calculus.

The easiest way to solve this is to leave out the G5 school their isn’t a G5 team worthy of going to the playoffs.
Correct, there needs to be a "floor" of some sort where if you're not top 20 or whatever you aren't eligible for an autobid. The nightmare was actually Duke winning the ACC, would've been even worse for everyone involved.

9 would be a shitty spot. Play a road game against a strong team just to play #1 the next week.

Per ESPN. "For Miami to advance to the ACC title game, the Hurricanes need to win out; have Virginia (VaTech), Georgia Tech (Pitt, Dawgs) and SMU (Louisville, Cal) lose their remaining games; and have Duke (UNC, Wake) lose one of its final two games."

Fuck the U

Might benefit us in the long run by getting us out of the 8/9 spot.

I want no part in OSU early. I think they’re beatable but I would rather play them as late as possible and give other teams the chance to knock them out. Give us the other side of the bracket.

I mean, OSU basically had that path last year, at least with the second game.

I think they would be easier to beat in that first game than later on, if we (or anyone) could beat them at all.

Miami fucked the whole country by losing in such a way that we are going to get a trash ACC champ. Also, ACC deserves a lot of blame for insane scheduling.

They aren't in the same tier as ND right now, because their losses were bad. If they get into the same tier because of losses by BYU/Utah, then H2H becomes a significant factor.
And unfortunately this is likely. I don’t think BYU beats Cincy this week but if they do and go on to play Texas Tech in the B12 CG and lose, does that extra game that Miami won’t have played bump them back? Sounds like we need an Ole Miss, Oregon, Oklahoma or Bama to stub their toe for us to get in.

The odds are -4000. Some books aren’t even taking money on ND right now.

I want no part of OSU, period. To me Ohio State is clearly the best team. Then Indiana and Georgia are tough outs, Oregon and Texas Tech are also really good.

Ole Miss, Oklahoma, A&M, ACC, G5, Bama... give me as many of those schools as humanly possible.

BYU shouldn't move if they lose to TTech again.

They probably wouldn't lose by 20 again. But it wouldn't change the fact that BYU sucks and should be nowhere near the playoffs.

So why is ND ranked so many spots ahead of Miami right now, or last week, or the week before? Miami isn't accumulating good wins. Neither do they magically get rid of their losses. That would be a terrible precedent for the committee to set. One team ranked 8 spots ahead of another team, but because other teams lose, now they flip positions for no other reason than head to head in the first game of the season?

I guarantee they would move.
This is where I am always going to differ. Same teams, same result, winner already ranked higher than the loser. BYU has better loses than Miami and the h2h against Utah. On paper beating (metrics) ND isn't that much better of a win than beating Utah
