#9 is the ceiling because we don't play anyone good the last two weeks? But we just dominated a ranked (now, barely unranked) team on the road this week and didn't move up.

Conspiracy take: the cleanest thing to do is put Alabama behind Notre Dame. If Alabama wins out, they are automatically in anyways. If they lose either game, they would be a 3 loss team. If it is to A&M, well there is no chance they lose a closer game than ours. Is it not cleaner to just have them further back for now?

9 ain't the ceiling if others in front of them lose

USC over Oregon
Ole Miss losing the Egg Bowl
Mizzou beating OU
Auburn winning the Iron Bowl <---edit: maybe not this one. lots in play.

would all be positives for ND

By this only way Bama jumps us if they win the SEC title if they lose they could be out.

Also, Miami is in 13th.

The only way they get into the ACC ccg is if a bunch of shit happens and there is a 4 way tie atop the conference.

They are at their ceiling, I think, barring BYU losing other than in the B12 ccg.

11th seed will be the ACC champ and 12th will be the G5.

I don't know how Miami, who has been firmly behind ND after their 2nd loss, would suddenly jump ND after beating VTech and Pitt. I do not see that happening.

The theory would be BYU and Utah losing would put Miami right behind ND in which case they would flip them

Only because we don’t control the destiny. If Oregon, Oklahoma, or Ole Miss drop one, ND is absolutely moving up.

I’d put money on one loss in there somewhere
The best case for us is Oregon loses to USC. That would help us in a number of ways. I think OU drops one of their last two. Their offense sucks.

Ok.. so has anyone done the math to see if there’s any way we get left out at this point?

Assuming we win the next two convincingly..

Alabama wins out, BYU and Utah lose in regular season, Ole Miss/OU/Oregon win out would be not ideal.

They aren't in the same tier as ND right now, because their losses were bad. If they get into the same tier because of losses by BYU/Utah, then H2H becomes a significant factor.

ND really wants BYU and Utah to win out in the regular season

I don't think that's the takeaway. Right now the committee doesn't see ND and Miami as being comparable teams, so the H2H doesn't enter into it. That's also what is getting lost in all the whining from the Miami dopes. I don't know that Miami has anything left on the table to change that perception, and if either lose another game it's all moot.

Everyone bitching about Miami can suck it. It was the first game of the year. I would say the same if the roles were reversed.
Two different teams at this point.

Win and we're in, nothing has changed. An upset or two and we are hosting.
Is there *any* nightmare scenario where we win out convincingly and get left out?

Texas Tech loses to BYU, Oregon beats USC, Miami doesn't get into ACCCG, Bama wins SEC, Oklahoma wins out, Pitt loses 2x.... and Utah loses one of their next two games. Does that end up with us next to Miami and getting left out for the last spot? I'm wracking my brain here.

That makes zero sense BYU and Utah shouldn’t matter unless ND struggles against Stanford and Miami blows the doors off Pitt you can’t justify jumping us 2 weeks from
Now if you haven’t already
