Committee is definitely using FPI (at the very least among other advanced metrics) more so than they used to. Good for us now when it used to not be lol.

FPI if nothing else is a good indicator of which teams are likely to be competitive against one another, moreso than win-loss record as unfair as it seems. TV execs don’t want blowouts.

Sampson is a stupid ass for carrying water for the "ND's rankings are more vibes than metrics" bullshit.

Like, if ND is "top 5 based on eye test", then tell me how it's all vibes when they're 10th?
Where did he say that?

Putting the best teams in the playoffs doesn't strike me as unfair.

This guy is over 12 hours deep into crying about this lmao.

Too bad this ACC homer doesn’t have a vote. Miami has been looking like shit and Beck is the stink in that shit. Carr is now a better QB than Beck and ND has looked better and has big double digit wins every week. Wins that have also left double digits on the field to boot. How you look the last 4-5 games matters. Miami has been struggling and many other teams like Vandy and GT have won games by the skin of their teeth. We got screwed on the head to head BS in 93 for a NC so turnaround is fair play.

H2H isn't the most important factor, and likely matters less when not breaking ties.

Ari, like most cfb fans, is just kind of dumb about the whole thing and wants it to be strictly based on W's and L's, which would be a stupid system.

Ari is just being performative for clicks. Him and Staples have to be the most boring combination to host a podcast ever created. Nothing they say is particularly insightful, premium insider information or exciting

Agree. Staples can be good but he's a straight man and Ari gives nothing. Ari is the sort of podcaster that you can hear in his voice that he's typing the team being discussed into Google to remind himself of what's interesting.

Countless people perform for clicks, but I believe Ari is a legitimate moron.

His schtick is so bad. No thoughts, no opinions, no thinking…just who has the most stars on their roster. How is that good listening?

Saban also made mention that he thinks they’ve rebuilt themselves back as a top 5 team from a rocky start. I feel we demolish Miami if we play them now. We were wrong for rooting for Miami. It goes against our religion. Will rooting for USC and Michigan turn out even worse? The USC win is looking better. They need to take care of of Northwestern and move into the top 20. Same goes for whoever Pitt plays this weekend. Navy game always makes me feel uneasy. We have been lost in both sides of the ball in short yardage situations.

Mostly agreed, but I never rooted for Miami. I'm still going to heaven.

This guy is over 12 hours deep into crying about this lmao.

The problem for this guy is that seven games later Carson Beck is still Carson Beck and CJ Carr is now coming into his own, has grown considerably and is no longer operating an offense with training wheels. Oh...and the defense isn't complete cheeks anymore.

Don’t give this guy any attention. He’s the only one complaining. No one else thinks Miami is worthy of being in the playoff right now. No one.

I should really learn to ignore this stuff but the whining is actually pathetic.
Do college football reporters really not understand how the sport works? Or are they playing dumb to get the ND hate engagement?

I still can’t believe we have our own beat reporter (Sampson), who I like, saying ND’s ranking is more “vibes” than anything.

From a power rating and advanced metrics standpoint, ND is clearly a better team than Miami, OK and Texas. How is that hard to comprehend?

Jamie (rightfully) got in his ass a little bit over that. Of course, Sampson's not gonna concede the point, so the best he would acknowledge is that ND's metrics are "solid."

Like, fuck off, Pete. ND is easily top 5-10 in FEI, FPI, Sagarin, and many more. They deserve the spot they're in based on the whole picture.

As of right now ND is trending up and schedule is favorable for all wins. Miami is trending down big time (right now) and disappointing all their early backers.

In essence the eye test favors ND right now big time.

If you think Pete is off, go listen to the latest Independent episode - Fortuna was absolutely seething over ND’s ranking.
