Absolutely. Quinn, Samardzija, and Zbikowski had so many individual highlights that year. I have more good memories of that season than any other. Even though we’ve had better seasons (obviously), 2005 really sticks out for me.There is a great story from the 2005 BYU game. Weis calls in a play to BQ. They go to the line and Weis gets on the headset to Mike Haywood and says "Watch how open Samardzija is going to be here."
TD.
Still have nothing but fond memories of that season. ND Football had been all but dead to me for a long time up until that point. It was also the season I found this board.
Darius Walker was a work horse and such a solid, balanced back but he definitely wasn't a burner. I would've guessed Armando Allen broke one loose at some point but also agree, that's wild lolIt’s still wild BQ had the longest run of the Weis era lol
He is playing exceptionally well. I don't want to get too far ahead, but it will be interesting to see his level next year.Basically what Jig said. I feel like Carr is playing exceptionally well for a redshirt freshman. In my foggy memory, Quinn was a Heisman finalist putting up some legendary offensive numbers. The fact that they are nearly the same seems crazy. Probably says something about the state of offensive football in 2025 and the state of ND football in 2005 too.
My nickname for him was "Almost Allen" because he'd always almost break a big one.Darius Walker was a work horse and such a solid, balanced back but he definitely wasn't a burner. I would've guessed Armando Allen broke one loose at some point but also agree, that's wild lol
Irrelevant, maybe not. But the days of pretending they're contending with the Ohio State's of the world are over for sure.PSU is learning that they are becoming irrelevant. I feel it… in my plums.
If I'm reading this correctly, nobody is better in converting 3rd and long?
YupIf I'm reading this correctly, nobody is better in converting 3rd and long?
It's because they are really bad. Pretty sure they are gonna lose to the Aggies this yearYup
Texas has a lot of 3rd and longs for a top 25 team.
3rd and longs would seem to be a very bad thing when facing a defense that leads the nation in sacks. It's because they are really bad. Pretty sure they are gonna lose to the Aggies this year
Was that the long run against USC where ND got their asses kicked? It’s still wild BQ had the longest run of the Weis era lol
YesWas that the long run against USC where ND got their asses kicked?
He did that late in the USC game. I'm pretty sure he shifted Rairidon from the right to the left to make sure he had the numbers game right on one of Love's runs on the last TD series. It was very simple, but man was it brilliant and something you don't see a lot out of a redshirt freshman. So hard to get QB's to understand the run game and pass pro scheme. He's seems to get it without a full season of experienceI feel like we hit one third and long run a game too from Carr checking to run when teams really lighten up or play with odd fronts
Yep. 2006Was that the long run against USC where ND got their asses kicked?
I was 14. Why on earth do I remember that game at allYep. 2006
i told some irish buddies yesterday that CJ tries too much for the homerun play and just needs to just take what the defense gives him at timesThis supports what it has felt like the last month. We are really starting to throw it deep at a clip that feels, can’t believe a ND fan is saying this, borderline too much. It inherently has led to a less efficient offense.
IMO the 15 yard outs to Faison have been the sweet spot of Carr’s ability. The deep posts have been good, straight verticals have not been.
Not that I don’t disagree but I’m just shocked I’m actually reading this post for an ND offense. loli told some irish buddies yesterday that CJ tries too much for the homerun play and just needs to just take what the defense gives him at times
I'm seeing only Sayin, Mendoza, and Dante Moore ahead of him. Maybe it depends on what minimum you're using. His passer rating, now 170.6, is now 5th in the country.
