BK left ND at a time when the sport was changing in a way that benefits ND. Leaving for LSU would have made more sense twenty years ago. I had assumed he would leave -because he didn't really seem to like ND or being the ND coach- but for the NFL. The NFL is obviously a pro league but also has a hard cap and so in theory success is more about talent identification and development, not about resources or location or admissions requirements. If you think you're a brilliant coach held back by a school's restrictions or location, the NFL would be a place to prove that.

I think he'd be an absolute dumpster fire in the NFL. He seems to treat players like second class citizens. Try that with a grown man making x3 your salary.

I think he tried to go to the NFL in 2012 and it didn’t work out and for whatever reason he never tried again.

I actually think some of his coaching style might translate better to the NFL where it’s less about connecting with and motivating young men and just dealing with professionals. But he has some fatal flaws as a HC (clock and game management) that will hold him back at any level.

Shit on Brian Kelly all you want but he picked some great defensive coordinators after 2017 at ND.
He didn’t pick those coordinators. Swarbrick intervened and hired Elko and Long, Lea was an obvious pick after Elko. If that is his claim to fame he sucks worse than even I thought!

He has more wins than any other ND coach.

Brian Kelly’s claim to fame will always be him being a pathetic loser! No one will remember his DII national championship. No one will remember his 100+ wins at ND. Everyone will remember the losses in the CFP and national championship game, and his 4 loses a year at LSU. The dude sucks!

You don't even remember the number of national championships you're not supposed to remember.

Maybe he can survive not making the playoffs (again) but if they don't win at least one of A&M or Bama...
Yeah, unless things totally unravel on him I'm not sure they'll pull the trigger. Honestly it's going to be a crowded coaching carousel so maybe they give him another season with a very short leash.

Idk … the angst is starting to trickle upward to the Baton Rouge native, Catholic High and LSU alum, AD Scott Woodward. No one is optimistic with Alabama, A&M, Arkansas, and OU left on the schedule.

Prior to yesterday, it was “we’re 5-1, have a lot to play for, and it could be a whole lot worse. Now, I really don’t know a fan that supports Kelly after yesterday …
