I feel your pain. The crazy part about Carr is, having seen him in just 6 games or work, I'd feel FAR more confident in him being a first round pick for my NFL team than I ever did about Williams (or McCarthy for that matter, or MOST any other college QB in the past 10 years).

I might as well get ahead of this before someone calls me crazy. Besides Burrow, Mahomes, and Allen, I like Carr over the rest on this list.

I've always wanted to say this about Carr but I was reluctant because I didn't want to jinx it. Since he committed to ND I've always had it in the back of my mind that this was just a cruel trick and he was gonna end up at scUM.
It's great that it worked out because he is so extremely talented and has a great staff to help him get even better.
I went to the NC State game for my 1st ND game ever and honestly the reason I made the 13 hour round trip drive was to see Carr play.

The way I read his post was, "Sure, poster who is being hard on CJ and getting booed to oblivion, he is not throwing a TD on every pass attempt, but he's playing pretty darn good."

These are conflicting statements and booby liked boons' comment.

If it's when they become a pro, Allen was not better than most of the QBs mentioned. He's awesome as a pro.
Lawrence is the inverse and was better than most of the QBs mentioned when he became a pro.

This is why I'm asking, I want to understand what you're comparing.

It's been a long time. Actually feels like Carr is putting up better numbers than what BQ was doing in 2005. It's an eyeball test thing more than anything for me. Carr's accuracy, touch, his ability overall is something we've missed for a while. I think the most comparable guy in my mind as always been BQ, but I would NEVER have guessed these numbers would be this identical.

Biggest difference is that BQ was a third year junior. Carr is an RS-Freshman putting up those kinds of numbers.

I was going to point out your last point that BQ was a Junior and had already played two seasons; he got significant burn mid-way through his Freshman year.

But BQ also did it with only five games leading into USC week (@Pitt, @scUM, MSU, @Wash, @Pur) which is also super impressive.

Also worth noting Quinn was throwing to AA Samardzija, 2nd rounder Fasano, and 3rd rounder Stovall.

Basically what Jig said. I feel like Carr is playing exceptionally well for a redshirt freshman. In my foggy memory, Quinn was a Heisman finalist putting up some legendary offensive numbers. The fact that they are nearly the same seems crazy. Probably says something about the state of offensive football in 2025 and the state of ND football in 2005 too.

There is a great story from the 2005 BYU game. Weis calls in a play to BQ. They go to the line and Weis gets on the headset to Mike Haywood and says "Watch how open Samardzija is going to be here."

TD.

Still have nothing but fond memories of that season. ND Football had been all but dead to me for a long time up until that point. It was also the season I found this board.
