Additional fun fact from me regarding the score. John Williams' score (along with a lot of other heroic American themed music) was heavily inspired by Aaron Copland's "Fanfare For the Common Man".

Aaron Copland is probably the most influencial american composer of all time and is credited with establishing the leitmotifs and instrumental association that would define what large parts of America would "sound like". Two of the best known examples of this are his Hoe Down and Appalachian Spring:

A fanfare was traditionally something played for the arrival of a monarch. Copland was writing this piece in response to America's entering WWII and was inspired to title the piece after hearing VP Wallace's speech proclaiming the coming years as "the century of the common man."

When he turned in the piece for comment, the original requestor wrote him "Its title is as original as its music, and I think it is so telling that it deserves a special occasion for its performance. If it is agreeable to you, we will premiere it 12 March 1943 at income tax time". Copland wittily replied "I am all for honoring the common man at income tax time".

Omaha Beach scenes filmed in Wexford, Ireland there was actually a kid in my high school a few years ahead of me. He had cancer (and eventually passed away) before in the course of his battle his leg was amputated. He was an extra in the opening scenes playing a US soldier who had his leg blown off.

I took my son to see Fantastic Four last night and was pleasantly surprised. I feel like they got the essence of the characters right. Lot's of sci-fi elements, family, humor, and I really enjoyed the 60's (yet still technically advanced) setting.
I read rumors about this being a Sue Storm movie and that she was the main protagonist. I found that to be somewhat true, but there wasn't a forced "girl power/MsheU" moment. Even the chick Silver Surfer didn't annoy me.
I thought the story was entertaining although it drag a bit in the middle. The jokes were typical Marvel. I didn't laugh at any of them, but could understand if someone else did.

I collected the FF back in the 80's and can say it was a pretty faithful representation of that period.
I know I said I was out after Red Hulk and Thunderbolts, but this film might have them back on track. We will watch Doomsday when it comes out.

Yes, it is great! Just funny from start to end. All the mini appearances from Kelce, Eminem, and even others are great also. I don't want to give too much away, but it is even a little heartfelt also. Sandler's movies can be hit or miss, but Happy Gilmore 2 is a home run.

Watched “Tetris” last night. Not bad…definitely worth the watch.I didn’t realize Tetris was invented by some Prole who never stood to made a dime off it living in Communist USSR. How paranoid would you have to be to live there back then?! I had no idea the infamous Robert Maxwell played a big role in story. The actor who played him looked a lot like the late Maxwell. Same w/ the actor they got to play Gorbachev.

Good stuff there that I didn't know. I'm tempted to make a joke about Copeland stealing most of this from Keith Emerson, but I'll refrain.

I watched Old Henry this week. It stars Tim Blake Nelson as a quiet homesteading farmer in early 20th century Oklahoma who is actually Billy The Kid (after faking his death 25 years before. Nelson is usually a comic actor (O Brother Where Art Thou and The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs), but he's really good in this entirely serious dramatic role. Very enjoyable movie.

Saw F1. Poor character development but rather decent.
Agreed here. I think the special effects and driving scenes were top notch though, so that made up or it. Definitely one that was worth watching in the theater for the experience, but I'm not sure it will be a regular movie for me.

Wife and I did watch this Saturday evening, it was good. Definitely some odd moments and some of it felt lazy (like just randomly inserting flashbacks from the original like 99% of the people watching HG2 haven't already seen the first one). But overall, it was a blast of nostalgia with some good laughs and fun celebrity plugs.

I think the next movie I will see at the cinema will be Jaws 50th anniversary (1975) About a large shark with a taste for humans and three men's efforts to subdue same one of which gets eaten in half.

I don't trust Hollywood with 3 hours of my time or money anymore. Nepotistic F-wits.
