I don't get Rudolphs love for Knapp at LT. He's a fantastic run block, always has been, but the amount of times he has been run past due to his lack of length is immense. He should be at guard and Jags at left when he comes back. Honestly just swap him with Lambert now, I know he also had a rough game but at least their is great upside there.

Yeah, a lot of us wanted him at center or OG after last year. But coaches can’t resist experience.

I don't think Knapp is normally this bad. Clearly he was out of it. Sick? Out of shape?

The better question is, how do they not have someone to replace him sooner at ND? ND should never be in this situation

Driskell going off on Rudolph and it seems like he's on point.

I know I was worried about pass pro and it seemed like I was correct in my thinking.
I do trust Rudolph and you just leave it up to him but you could tell from the get-go he loved Knapp on a personal level that may potentially distort his decision making. He recruited him to wherever we got Rudolph from then Knapp came across with him.

Does anyone have a timeline on Jagusah return? Botehlo came back in two months when it was originally reported he would be out 4 months. Jagusah had surgery July 5? Usually timeline for broken arm is 6-8 weeks. Sept 13th would be 10 weeks

I would also consider:
Wagner—Knapp—Craig—Shrauth—Lambert

Let Jag take over for Knapp or Lambert when he gets back.

Bain plays physical on the edge and both knapp and wagner are light in the ass.

I would guess it was body blows from 2, 280 pound DEs first, heat/humidity second.

2 guys.
They aren’t gonna move 4 guys positions in season

Probably not. But it’s really two.

Lambert is a true RT, he’s only at RG because Jagusah’s out. If Wagner was injured, he would have been the guy.

And if Knapp goes down I would hope they would consider Wagner to compete with Prescot, instead of just handing it over to a non-starter sophomore and locking in Wagner at RT.

So it’s not that far-fetched.

Because they moved all those possible replacements to guard during fall camp … Lamberts, Black, and Absher … presumably so nobody would challenge Knapp at LT. 🤔

Been hoping against but seeing this coming. Commentator uses better wordage to describe what I've been saying about these guys "getting splayed out" with arms and legs not anchored to their cores, and therefore not being able to generate their strength at the hit/punch. One in fact notices too many times that there is no "punch" at all. Somewhere ZMart is cringing. (also Harry.)

I'm just really hoping our tackles were sick or something because they were struggling just to get into their pass sets. Not just getting beat but struggling to get out of their stances. It was rough.

Exactly

Doesn’t matter what plays that you are calling if the tackles can’t set the edge

Rudolph should be on notice. Neither run nor pass protection have been good enough vs good teams. RL covered up a lot of those deficiencies last year. ND recruits itself at OL so talent isn't the issue. It seems Joe just isn't getting it right with this group.

I posted in another thread but Wagner and Knapp were atrocious I'm not sure who was worse but neither deserve to be playing. Here is what I would do going forward as soon as Jagusah is back.
LT: Jagusah
LG: Schrauth
OC: Ashton Craig
RG: Lambert
RT: Will Black

Wagner needs to be better but I don't really think you can sit a returning starter captain for a guy who has never played a down of college football.

You can if that captain isn't cutting it, I mean he might look great against undersized teams but Knapp or Wagner neither are getting drafted to play tackle in the NFL. Their best shot is playing inside. The best tackle prospects we have on the team are Black, Jagusah and Lambert

Well, no one cares what we nowhere-near-the-practice-field people think (nor should they), but based on my shallow knowledge, if Jagusah gets back and is sound and ready, I really would like him at LT. With Billy and Ashton that would give us at least one side of the line with muscle and violence and cohesion. You can do a lot with that. At RG, I'd like to know what Coach Rudolph is seeing in practice. Then I'd put in Abshur or Lambert depending on whoever has the least blown blocking assignments. You can be good on paper, but block the wrong person. Lambert was seen doing that. Both guys are powerful enough. ... and then Wagner. Wagner is smart enough and he tries enough, so maybe that's OK if we help with TE chips or RB alertness. I would imagine that it would take longer than we have to convert Knapp to "something else." Who knows (except Rudolph) how close Black or anyone else is.

Cool. Let’s start a true frosh at RT in hopes he’s better than the starter from last year? Touch grass man. Life’s hard and worrying about a game and which changes to make, that you have zero control over makes it harder.

I agree with this, but I would take it a step further. I would put Knapp at RG. And I would do it today. That way the right side may be undersized, but should be quicker. It might not be completely optimal, but it would allow us to run more speed and movement based plays to the right and more power oriented plays to the left. It gives away obvious tendencies, but that is where an OC worth their weight finds ways to exploit the defense knowing the tendencies.

We started a 3 star Freshman at LT last year so why couldn't we start a 5 star Freshman LT this year? A lot of experts said Black would be hard to keep off the field this year you can't tell me he is any worse than what we saw Sunday, I'm not only thinking about this year I'm thinking about the next 2-3 years while Carr is our QB

I've heard a lot about how Knapp would make a great guard. While I agree he is a guard playing LT, are we sure he'd even be starting at guard? Maybe at the moment because of Charles being out? I don't think he's better than Billy or Charles (if someone other than Knapp and Charles at LT).

Yes, that's how real life works.
