Personally I'm getting frustrated hearing this from coaches. How about dummy down the playbook so players can play fast? I mean is our playbook so much more advanced than everywhere else? We need these athletes to be useful on the field. The rules make it so simple to play offense now. Sorry I'm tired of this excuse and just getting old to me.

All due respect, this isn't high school. It might take some players time.

Denbrock is a proven elite OC, yet we are asking him to change it up to accommodate a true freshman? lol

Hearing Denbrock praise Eli like that is pretty surprising. He’s not the the type to blow smoke. Would obviously mean a ton for the offense if he takes a big step / has regained his athleticism.

Same here. I hope that isn't the reason why Cam Williams is still buried in the depth chart..

Really don't understand why anyone thought they were going to get anything noteworthy at this thing. Marcus runs a tight ship, and even during the season the press conference information is pretty lacking in substance. The only people who need to know what's going on within the team have offices in the Gug and lockers in the locker room.

How many August 17ths have passed without having a starting QB named?

Not a lot.

Freeman pressers aren’t exactly the most positive vibes thing ever and it’s been 4 years. He routinely doesn’t give any real answers and is tired. Hard to take any opinion on his ability and to coach football from a very basic presser from Ash.

In regards to Ash, I think people have questioned or have been nervous about all of Freeman's hires with the exception of Denbrock and the RB coaches. Stuckey was a Rees guy and Parker was more of a last resort, but other than that...Freeman has made good choices on who he has brought in. No one bats a thousand but I don't think Ash will hurt that trend. Good thing is, we'll know right away with the first two games. He's got to go against a veteran (NFL caliber) QB who can light up the passing game, who has a stout OL and good run game. Then he's got a Dual-Threat QB who can hurt you with his feet and another stable of talented backs in game 2. Let's see how he game plans against the two talented but different types of QBs he has first on the schedule.

Then it will. But no point for the coaches to do it now.

😆 Not Zibby or Harrison Smith!

From the little I’ve seen, he’s always a step late in pass coverage 😬. Good tackler though
Ash will repudiately run a lot of zone so I’m thinking Talich may have the best skill set for Ash’s defense,
But the most likely scenario is Stroman gets the start due to experience and they work in Talich in the first few games to get a good handle on what we have.
Tae will get plenty of action too, but might be in the back 2/3 of the regular season.

I dunno guys, I have such bad vibes on Ash. Guess we'll know one way or another in two weeks.
I expect to take a step back one way or another on defense. Freeman had a rocky start as DC, as did Golden. Even if Ash is a great DC it wouldn’t be unprecedented for the defense to adjust shakily, which concerns me given our first two opponents

I’m interested in the green dot for defense. Confirmed it will be Bowen today but it’s clear there will be rotations of LBs. Who would be next in line - King? Can’t have more than 2 guys you want to prep for this, right?

Also, does that mean Bowen will be a 3down guy? I know we’ve seen him fill the running lanes but wasn’t sure about his pass coverage.

I find Sampson's tweet encouraging. It means he really wants Burress to put it together because he can see the obvious talent. I immediately think of Kevin Stepherson but I believe Burress' background should have him prepared to do the work. Once he settles in and stops making mental mistakes, he'll earn snaps on an increasing basis.

Honestly, that makes me believe more than ever that Burress might force his way in this season. Really excited to watch it play out.

And FFS, can people stop saying "dumb down the playbook" as though the offense can simply be changed around to suit players who haven't fully memorized their responsibility? It's one thing if the guy is a 4.3 freak who can run go routes all day, then we can talk about selectively putting them in for plays to challenge the defense.

But with a tactician WR like Burress, who looks like he does all of the little things well, they can't spoon feed him. I would guess those remarks are intended to light a fire and keep Burress grinding. Denbrock doesn't say that unless he can see something special in his game.

Mr. Tactician, when they say dumbing down the playbook-they mean selective routes (and not just go routes). My take.

We’ve played plenty of WRs early under Freeman? The last guy this was a thing for was Merriweather and he’s on his third school and has yet to prove ND was wrong
Braylon James was a similar situation but that proves your point even moreso

Not a lot.
Which changes what I pointed out 0%. Nobody outside of the team needs to know that information at this point, regardless of how much you or anyone else including the beat want to know it.
