Lol at everyone. There has been one player in the last 2+ decades to play both ways in CFB. And he did it against mid competition. You can't take the beating week in and week out for 14-16 games on both sides of the ball. Most guys having difficulty staying healthy with 30-60 reps in a game.

I'll stop short of guaranteeing he only plays defense, the staff might find a creative way for him to get an offensive snap or two in RZ but I think:

Actually you are wrong. Shaw Thompson did for 3 years for Washington, Nick Vigil Utah State, Myles Jack UCLA, Peppers from Michigan, Adoree Jackson USC

He and Golden will probably have some packages on both sides of the ball. To expect them to start both ways though is unrealistic.

I think it helps to have pretty intense rotations in both position groups to make it a possibility.

Most of those individuals played offense out of necessity due to a lack of depth at those positions. Most of the time due to injuries.

I'm not saying he won't ever play some offensive snaps, but it would likely be very limited. There's a much better chance he never plays a snap on offense than him seeing huge minutes on both sides of the ball.

Once O'Brien gets a starting Safety position, I would consider the possibility remote. We are in a new day and age with the expanded College Football playoff. It becomes more and more about managing workload and making sure your guys are healthy for the stretch run.

Devan Houstan can play both sides of the ball and O’Brien can’t???

The staff has rather explicitly told Golden and O’Brien that they can play both ways. At some point it becomes bad business to not follow through with that.
Extremely good point and worth monitoring down the road.

I would say I wouldn't want a safety generally to be that tall and long. But he has crazy ball skills too, so I'd love to see him high point over a TE for an interception.
