Time agjusted: Has there ever been a better first off the bus duo than George Connor and Leon Hart? And they were in the same class… even if the nabbed Connor out of the portal.
Damn straight. Leon Hart was a 3 time All America as End/TE/fullback and started for Notre Dame's 1946 title team as a
17 year old freshman, along side a bunch of grown assed men who had served several years in the war before they got to Notre Dame. Leon may have been the best player ever at ND.
One of my uncle's favorite stories was when as he was an underclassman and was visiting with an upper class buddy who lived in a different dorm. A couple of guys on the floor got into it down the hallway, there was pushing and shoving, and a ruckus started. The whole floor poured out of their rooms to see the fight. As the brawl went on and the yelling increased, Jungle Jim Martin came out of one of the rooms, and the crowd parted like the Red Sea. Jungle Jim walked up to the two knuckleheads, picked them up by their collars, one in each hand, and bashed their heads together, knocking them senseless. He dropped them to the ground in a heap, and told everybody to get back to their rooms and shut up, people needed to sleep. He then went back down the hallway. The crowd immediately dispersed, and all became quiet......
