Not knocking you at all, but it's kind of amazing recruiting rankings ever held any sway, or still do. It would be one thing if the guys doing the rankings were ex-college coaches, ex-head high school coaches, ex-NFL scouts, etc. But they're not. Tom Loy, Steve Wiltfong, Andrew Ivins are the types of guys doing the rankings. They're not in any way qualified to be opining on this stuff. They can get the top 20-50 guys mostly right (not that hard based on the number of offers and the top programs heavily pursuing certain kids), but the rest is just a complete crapshoot on their end.

There is no one in the game right now that's better at identifying secondary talent than Mike Mickens and here are the composite rankings of some of the guys he's snagged the last 5-6 years. Pretty funny to be honest.

- Cree Thomas: 490 overall
- Ethan Long: 515 overall
- Brandon Logan: 630 overall
- Leonard Moore 430 overall
- Karson Hobbs: 629 overall
- Kennedy Urlacher: 641 overall
- Adon Shuler: 318 overall
- Ben Morrison: 311 overall
- Sauce Gardner: 1605 overall

Could not agree more here. I think people have assigned a lot of weight to them because they draw a correlation between Bama's recruiting rankings and their on-field success. The transition from Saban to Deboer (a very good coach in his own right) proves that player development and coaching is just as important as high school talent.

What the services do, and they do it for ND as well, is once a guy commits to one of the big boys, their ranking skyrockets. Sound strategy on their end to align their rankings with the power programs. Especially power programs with excellent coaching and development.

As an example, our current slot Devonta Smith was ranked around 480th by 247 when Alabama offered him; he committed to them a couple months after being offered. Around 6th months after being offered, he jumped up to 150th overall. The whole rankings industry is a sham.

id argue that being uncommitted but having interest from the big programs does more to improve a kids rankings. Once you commit then you are old news

Depends on the guy.

Prior to the early signing period, many of the top ranked five star guys would announce on signing day in February. Their rankings were not really affected one way or another.

We've seen time and again a late bloomer blow up with offers, start taking visits and the rankings bump comes prior to the commitment or even after. Devonta Smith is a great example of how a blue blood program finds a guy and suddenly his ranking gets a bump as well.

@TheProspector is correct as far as I'm concerned. The rankings industry is a sham. Has been for a very long time.

That type of small drop is usually in line with maybe a small drop, but mostly others hopping more than a proactive drop of Osborne

Have you watched his film? Go back to the first page, you'll see my post and others who were convinced this guy is a stud WAAAYYY before ND became a player. Don't worry about the rankings, Seider has a group of incredible prospects considering ND. Osborne is 2nd to none of them.

Once money and politics took over recruiting sites and rankings, they went to shit. I’ve followed recruiting avidly for twenty years a lot has changed on that front. It’s now tailored to fan bases and the rankings slant in those directions because money is the bigger draw. The wild part is, there’s so many more resources and interest now and they actually turn out a worse product.

Oh yeah, Osborne is a stud

Osborne and Bonner seem to be his top two targets once he got there. Passed on Mickens. I trust his evaluations

I wish his his ranking was better for PR purposes if Notre Dame gets him but I legitimately believed that he's got an argument as the best RB in the class. I don't know what the recruiting services are saying but IMO the '26 RB classic absolutely loaded.

I like Savion Hiter, he is great but this class is loaded and he's not in my top 5 in this class with Ezavier Crowell reclassifying.

Put these 5 in any order and I can agree to it and believe any one of them are worthy of RB #1. Javion Osbourne, Brian Bonner, Derrek Copper, Ezavier Crowell and KJ Edwards.

That said guys like Savion Hiter, Jonaz Walton, Tradarian Ball, Jonathan Hatton and Deshonne Redeaux are like quarter of a tick off from the others mentioned who have another season to improve and pass over those other guys.

Great year for rbs. And we would be so happy with Walton and the Missouri kid...but Osbourne and Bonner is a special hall
