i actually recently went back and tried to play 3 and New Vegas and man they just dont age well. And thats not like i super enjoyed 4 either

Love me some New Vegas but it definitely feels it's age. The fact that Bethesda is still making games on that engine in 2025 is insane (in a bad way).

I think might start a new career in mlb the show,… a knuckleballer named Pickles McFeeley. Kick over some rocks, see what’s under there…

Awesome, thanks for that. I'll give RetroPie a try. What emulator did you use for Dreamcast, I want to play some crazy taxi for sure

I believe it's lr-flycast, if not it's Redream. I believe Reicast is the Dreamcast emulator that gets installed by default and that was the one I had problems with. Now, it's been almost 5 years since I first did the install, so maybe they got the bugs worked out, I can't say. I just know the default Dreamcast emulator caused lockups and didn't play nice at the time.

If you're looking for a guide, this one is similar to what I went with when I first did mine:
For transferring games I liked using the SMB method, which basically involves putting your SD card into a reader, plugging it into your PC and moving the files that way. I've never tried plugging a FAT32 formatted USB into the Pi board itself for transferring ROMs, but that looks like an option too. They don't mention it, but there's a few more things you may want like a Pi case and maybe a few connectors, like a micro-USB to HDMI converter cable so you can hook it up to your TV or PC (The cable is like $2). Cases when I was looking were about $20-$30, I liked the ones that had build in reset/power buttons, some cases have no buttons and you shut them off by pulling the power cable. Make sure it has decent cooling or a good heatsink.

The case I went with back in the day is the Argon ONE Aluminum case for Raspberry Pi 4. There may be better ones now, but it's been gold

Anyone have overheating issues with their PS5? We had ours stored horizontally in an open front cabinet with a computer cooling fan to circulate air and it just randomly turned off one day, felt very hot to the touch, and hasn't turned back on since. I took it to the local repair shop and they're currently diagnosing it. The specifically asked if we stored it vertically, to which I said no. They said they've noticed a lot of overheating issues with vertically stored systems because of the coolant not getting to where it needs. Just fyi for anyone who may keep theirs on the vertical stand.

Mines horizontal as well. Having it vertical can cause the liquid metal to fall onto the motherboard and short it. I've seen issues with the fan in it failing but personally haven't had the issue myself

Sonuva bitch. Guess I need to reorient my PS5, I haven't been keeping up with any known issues, and thankfully it hasn't had any problems yet. In the past I've never cared to have my systems vertical like that, but the PS5 is kind of a monster space-wise and I didn't mind setting it vertical this time since it actually came with a stand. Guess that's over.

So I finished Portrait of Ruin and wanted to do another CV game. I was about to start Rondo since I never beat it but it's so damned furstarting,... I got thinking of Lament of Innocence and how it's one of my fav games in the series and is largely forgotten, it's not on any of the classic collections etc,... I got in a "how can I ever play that again" mode,... looked into emulators etc and found that it's just not out there. So I fired up my ps3 for the first time in like five years really to see if there is a way to download it on that system of anything and boom,... saved to the hard drive in Lament of Innocence... so, I'm playing through it again.
I have a few games in the "how can I play this game again or WHY did I buy this game again" category. I will never tell my secret though. 🤫

I'm going to wait till the trade war is over...and probably a few years more when prices may come down. That's been my go to move since kids came along a decade or so ago

Not a bad idea.

I got mine back from the shop and randomly enough, they said the system sort of "fixed itself." They didn't even charge me. No one knows what exactly happened, but they confirmed it was not working when I took it in and later in the day, they tried again after removing the exterior and it started right up. It's been working fine ever since. Although now it's out of the cabinet and just on a side table, with plenty of space around it for air flow. It looks awful and certainly doesn't have "wife approval," but we're in the process of finishing the basement and it'll eventually end up in a server rack in the media closet (although now I'm dealing with a potential heat concern and looking into room ventilation to prevent this from happening again.) Piss poor design if you ask me. Even with a ton of airflow around the console now, you can feel quite a bit of heat around that whole area.

Both are solid options unless it's in a closet and you to exhaust the air. Then look at something like this

I have kept my PS5 vertical since day number 1 and have never had a problem. I did however buy a little fan for it because I do have it hidden.....but other than that never any issue.

I heard the vertical/horizontal thing is bogus anyway. Not sure if it's true or what. 🤔

Thanks. Yeah, I've looked into all of these options. The media rack will be inside a walk-in storage closet. At the moment, I'm on the fence about putting in a duct ventilation system now during framing, or waiting to see the actual temp in the room before ultimately retro-fitting a solution to circulate cooler air in that space. The exhaust fan system you linked could work great. I've seen people do intake near the floor and then exhaust out of the room near the ceiling. This is definitely on the radar for the retro-fit solution. However, my wife is worried about aesthetics. We spent a decent amount of time designing the basement to hide typical basement stuff (water valve access, etc) so the idea of two vent fans on a wall near the door is not ideal for our design goals. I've been looking into this for a duct system and might pull the trigger, just waiting to hear back from project manager on it being an add-on to the scope or work...

I was going to suggest an intake and outtake as well. Depending on how much stuff you plan on having in the closest you can probably get away with just exhaust.

Right. There won't be much, but if the need arises to help depressurize the room, I may put a small door louvre or wall register near the floor. Something that just allows the free flow of cool air to come in while the ceiling exhaust is pulling hot air out.

I bought a wall mounted Navepoint 12U rack that will have the PS5, Sony AVR, networking switch, universal remote base, and Apple 4K TV base. Any space I have leftover, I'm going to buy a rack fan to help as well.

I have had my ps5 since launch and vertical with no issues. Are yours the digital or disc drives?

Mine is Disc Drive. I wanted a PS4 replacement since my kid jacked my system up many years ago. I haven't had any problems yet though. Funny that the PS4 also had some issues with liquid metal/soldering on board I think, used to lead to the video going out for many people.

Disc drive as well. My PS4 was much worse with over heating. It collected dust like no other and she eventually over heated and died. My PS4 pro then sounded like a jet plane. I miss my PC. I went overboard with it and water cooled it with noctua fans. That thing was silent

Played some NHL 25 for the first time in a minute,... I'm in like years five or so in my Sens franchise, it's fun but at a certain point you get so good that even on the highest setting with sliders toward the cpu you win just about every game. I'm sure the community would jack me up online but the cpu could give more of a challenge.

Been alternating between NHL 25 and FIFA, both are fun for a bit but like you said the CPU just doesn't give enough of a challenge at a certain point

Also been playing through my Lament of Innocence replay,... the music is so good and some of the areas are so good.... and then there's Palace of Dark Waterfalls and a few other areas that just suck. I will say, if they ever remake a Castlevania for the modern consoles, this or any of the NES CVs have to be the choice... this would be great as a remaster/remake.

man so many of these Bethesda employees weren't bullied in school enough and it shows

Sort of fascinating to watch a Bethesda hype vid with pre-knowledge of what they're hiding. The attempts to make combat look awesome through flashy editing was particularly noticeable. Also funny to see that shot with the horse on the bridge at the end where it looks good from a distance but juuuust starts to show some jank in the animation before a quick cut.

All that being said, having Gamepass already I'm very excited to replay the game. It may not have the total freedom of Morrowind but its quests (particularly Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild) were some of the highlights of the whole Elder Scrolls series.

Absolutely the bolded...hell, even the Mages Guild in Oblivion (While not super epic) was way better than the Mages Guild we got in Skyrim.
