I would put Run Silent Run Deep at the top with Hunt for Red October.
The unrestricted submarine warfare of WWII in the pacific is the most criminally underrepresented operations in modern WWII cinema. No single operation had more devastating impact to the adversary, and the submarine force had the highest mortality rate out of any service in the entire military. I am absolutely dying to see a cinematic depiction of Thunder Below!, Wahoo, or Clear the Bridge. I think Eugene Fluckey’s patrols on the USS Barb are tailor made to a Spielberg/Hanks miniseries. They blew up a damn train on the Japanese mainland by repurposing the scuttling charges of the Barb and the pressure switches from the torpedoes and sent a landing party - the only instance of US troops invading the Japanese mainland. It would be so fucking good

1) Das Boot, as others have said, extended edition. It’s in German but with English subtitles. It is a phenomenal movie and doesn’t get enough mainstream attention in the WWII cinematic cannon.

2) Hunt For Red October for sure, it’s got the great acting and writing (albeit unrealistic submarine operational depiction). Still good

3) Down Periscope - this is a comedy. Many submariners like to say this is the most realistic submarine movie (to which I roll my eyes) but it is true that it’s the best movie about submariners.

4) Run Silent Run Deep: old Clark Gable movie about US submarine operations against Japan. I’m dying for a modern remake. Very good film

5) U-571 - what this gets right is that all submarine officers are hot

I hate the most recent submarine movie Hunter Killer with Gerard butler, but I almost like to hate watch it.

Down Periscope...now there's a movie I haven't thought about in a long time. The only good thing about it was probably a blond Lauren Holly of Dumb and Dumber fame.

Wife and I started watching Goliath with Billy Bob Thorton. I enjoy how he has played the same type of person in every movie/show he does, just with different hats on.

I really have enjoyed the Yellowstone series and spinoffs, but the new season of 1923 sucks so far.

We loved Goliath. I think it's his best work to date.

Loved that show. Pissed when they didn’t do another season but landman and his ex-wife will just have to do.

Watched the Prime series The Bondsman with Kevin Bacon. Bacon somehow gets pulled into fighting these demons in order to keep himself from going to hell while dealing with his ex and her nob connected boyfriend. Not bad. Not great, but not bad.

Just finished S3 of Bosch Legacy. Pretty solid like all the others. The last episode was weak. Seemed like they were trying to close out the final chapter, but it was more of a filler episode to me.

Started on Manhattan on Prime. Through the first three episodes and pretty decent. Its about the Manhattan Project but from a little different angle. More about the civilians and their differences with the military and the different scientific groups that have to work in segregated labs/offices.

I watched that a few years ago and enjoyed it. First time I'd ever noticed Rachel Brosnahan.
