When I say average, I'm taking all players on the roster (minus players like Carr, and Love, for example), and sharing the realized average compensation across the entire team, per player.
To be honest, I wish a lot of reporters would stop throwing out "This school's NIL budget is X".
The entire system is so convoluted.

The upfront money these schools pay(from multiple collectives) isn't truly known most of the time. It can be over or under reported. Then you have all the deals these kids get once they hit campus from things done outside of the school collectives (see the Sam Hartman example above) that aren't factored into the reporting.

For example, LSU has a decent enough NIL collective structure. They pay decently up front. It's competitive. However, their additional streams of revenue lag behind a lot of other places like ND. If you go to LSU you might get a nice up front check but you don't have the same total income potential as you might have at another school.

One former ND player found this out the hard way and wanted to come back.

All this is to say, if you hear a reporter mention a school's "NIL Budget" it might be wildly wrong...and even if it is correct down to the penny for the upfront collective money they are talking about it may not be at all indicative of the total earning potential/income of that roster due to deals made outside the NIL collective(s) budget.

Be wary.

I agree. This very thing is one of the primary drivers for the majority of the pushback I've received on other sites. I'm sharing accurate information, while often, the information other posters are looking at is coming from dubious sources, and/or it's fractured information.

I suspect I know exactly the player you're referencing, btw.
I think it was clearly Diggs. Someone else on 247 heard a rumor he wanted to come back to ND but Freeman said no.

FWIW, I think Mercke and I are using "base" different here. FUND has what I always joked was Universal Basic Income. If you are a warm body on the roster and do nothing but simply exist on the roster....you get the UBI..that used to be 25k. You can exponentially expand that by doing more activities for FUND etc but you didn't have to. You could just be on the roster, go to class, practice, games, and collect that 25k.

I think the "base" he references above is the average that players are making on the roster if they are taking the "UBI" and doing some additional things for FUND itself..and as he mentioned that 150-160 doesn't include additional deals signed outside of FUND.

I don't know what that 25k UBI number is now from FUND. I believe it's creeping towards/around 50 though.

Curious about the walk-ons. I am not talking the Luke Taliches of the world, but moreso the Charles Du level that will never see the field other than a garbage time special teams snap. Do they get that UBI or is strictly for scholarship athletes and PWOs? Understand that could be changing with the roster limits as well.

I'm sure all of this will get buried but if I could sum it up with one example I'd ask everyone to always remember the Sam Hartman one.

His upfront/FUND deal was around 1.25-1.5 IIRC.(Leonard was in the 2mil range for point of comparison) So from a reporters perspective reporting on the "budget" he's going with that 1.25-1.5 number.

Well, once Hartman got to campus he started getting all kind of other deals outside of FUND via his representation by VaynerMedia . Razor deals, Beats, Rhoback/clothing, maybe even some additional UA stuff. I forget it all. By the time he walked off campus he was around 4mil in total NIL revenue. So obviously the budget number of 1.25-1.5 is not at all indicative of the actual "budget" or total compensation that "ND" had invested in Hartman. The "budget" the reporter is telling you is off by a factor of over 2x!

I suspect I know exactly the player you're referencing, btw.
You do. ;)

@Merckxe525

Sorry if this was already asked.

Regarding the QB situation, who do you think is most likely to transfer based on who gets the starting role? Have you heard any rumors about any of our current QBs transferring?

Seriously - he was so confident in his bet(I don't even remember what that was), then he lost and the anticipation from the board on the lap happening...still waiting...
Was it that Greg Bryant was transferring after his first semester or something?

First, glad to read you are on the mend. Hope that continues for you and your mom.

I listened to Prister and Brice yesterday, and they had Eric Thomas on to talk about recruiting. He seemed to say that we would see the bump in recruiting for the 2027 class and talked about the Pot of Gold day. I may have misheard, but it seemed like he was talking like we shouldn't get too excited about the upcoming class. He talked about Deland leaving, Bowden leaving and the late start due to the deep playoff run. I don't really care about top 5 or whatever, but I know some do, so how excited do you or "the Gug" feel like we should be about the upcoming class?

Based on the op’s wording, yes.

Logan never could make his mind up, and constantly struggled with being home sick. AJ did her best to get him to stay at ND, but him leaving was always a question of when, not if. Then, when he finally did leave, he almost immediately realized that he belonged at ND all along. However, at that point, ND had moved on.
The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the hill.

Very much appreciate the info you bring. Might as well make IE your permanent home. As you can see, we're pretty addicting. lol

2009 for me.

@Merckxe525 are there any guys that we aren’t expecting that may make a big impact next year? Perhaps that’s tough to find since this is a ND board, but thought I’d ask. Thanks
