Where were you 45 years ago today?

I was watching this with my pond hockey crew on our new 46" NEC Big Screen. Probably the most out of my mind - hyped I've ever been besides beating ND in '88... quite ironically.

9 years old. Even then I knew the significance of it. I remember Eruzione & Craig were the “stars” from that team. My naïveté led me to believe both would be NHL stars. Eruzione never played in the NHL & Craig was a journeyman.

David vs Goliath
Good vs Evil

and they still had to win the gold medal game after upsetting the Red Army.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Sitting in the family room watching it on the 19" color TV. It was tape delayed to show in prime time and Jim McKay was in the studio. As the game progressed, Jim had trouble containing himself (he knew the outcome) and you could tell that something was up. It is one of my earliest sports memories.

Remember it well. I also remember they struggled in the gold medal game. Kind of hard to match the intensity and adrenaline after beating the Russkies.

I was an under age lad with hockey being the last thing on the mind. It was at my first real girlfriend's house and Dad made us watch while she has making me want to go back to her room, under strict orders to keep the door open.
She got mad at me from then on out, as I would sit and watch hockey games with her father on almost a daily bases after taking care of his daughter.
One of my favorite times watching a sport and being taught all the rules, It was the best of both worlds and being young at that time was different.

-13. Watching Miracle in the theater with my whole hockey team as a 12 year old was a formative experience. I can only imagine watching the actual game live.

I was in the womb, my parents always told me that it seemed like everything was going wrong in the country and that it was hard to be proud to be an American, then that happened and everything seemed to swing,… that’s just how they always talked about it

What a pivotal moment in world history.

Exactly what I started to write up as you can see above but I thought better of it and stopped. Didn't want this to devolve into a Fascist v. Commie post but since you added it... this and Reagan 9 months later went hand in hand to turning around the mindset of this country which led us to be the unchallenged, lone superpower... until we funded our latest challenger with our lust for cheap Walmart junk.

We lived out in the boonies and only got 2 channels - ABC was the odd man out, so no 80 winter Olympics. I don't remember kids talking about it at school either, as not many folks in rural ass northeast Missouri gaf about hockey at the time.

My dad put up a big honkin antenna later that year, after which we were blessed with a 3rd network TV channel.

Was a junior in college. Small, hockey school near the NY-Canada border. We were lucky - had Canadian TV on the cable at our frat house. We were able to watch it live in the afternoon. Then went to watch our basketball team set the school's all time season win record that evening (2 frat brothers on the team). Came back and watched it again on ABC that night. Remember feeling almost as nervous the second time I watched it like something different was going to happen. My roomate and I had gone to Lake Placid to watch bobsled and luge (it was what we could afford tickets for) the day after the Czech game. The place was hopping even then with anticipation. After the replay of the game on ABC to finish the night, he and I were bartending at the party in the frat basement. Live cover band. Louder and hotter than heck. At one point, he and I wouldn't serve any more beer until everyone sang God Bless America. Miracle is one of the top 10 sports movies of all time - captures the feeling of the country and the story of the team very well.

Born in ‘81 here. My first real sports memory that I recall was IU winning the hoops National Championship in ‘87. I was with my Grams and have never seen her more happy since.

Then ND ‘88 won it, my old man was going crazy wild happy. And I was like great, these NCs are like clock work…oh boy was I wrong.

I had just turned 20. I didn't watch the game live as I'd gone out with a girl I'd just started dating a few weeks before. After dropping her off at her house after our date, I turned the radio on as I was leaving. Just as I got to the end of her driveway and was turning onto the road, I heard the news about the score. I still remember exactly where I was and can picture the trees across the road from me, and thinking that this was the biggest sports upset of my life.

This is very true...the Soviets were at the height of their power, or so it seemed. The Iran hostage crisis, rampant inflation, and a failed Jimmy Carter Presidency all had everyone feeling very depressed. I was 9 years old and I still remember where I was when I heard the score. It was one of the most uplifting moments in our country's history. Ronald Reagan took power and everything began to change for the better. The only other time I can remember where I was when I found out the result of a sporting contest was the Tyson upset by Buster Douglas. I was so shocked I couldn't believe it.

Beating the czheks in round 2 fired me up. I believe the stastny brothers were on that team (peter, Anton, Marion I believe). I'm from the South where hockey wasn't big then but my family got into it watching me lol. Subscribed to hockey news back then

Our family has just gotten cable which was literally a small box (about same size as a keyboard but only about half as wide) on which you depressed buttons for the different channels laid out across the box. That’s where I think the term Home Box Office came from). I grew up in Rochester NY and so cable included the Canadian channel so I’m pretty sure I watched it live on that cable channel. What a game!

Learned to love hockey going to Clinton Comets (old EHL) hockey games with my brothers, cousin, uncle, and father and then watching Hockey Night in Canada with Howie Meeker when we first had cable TV outside Utica, NY
