Detroit style pizza is just what if we took Sicilian and added more fat and oil

It’s definitely good, but I couldn’t eat it as a primary pizza

There’s about 10 left, but I don’t think any are in Indy anymore. One of the last was on the south side at Southport and Emerson but it closed about a year ago. Tore it down to put up a Valvoline oil change.

They had good pizza especially their deep dish. The guys that originally started it (Hughes?) in college ended up buying into St. Elmo’s a while back. IIRC that’s about the time Noble Romans started going downhill.
I think there is still a Noble Romans down on 135 in Center Grove. I believe it’s still there

They still exist in random gas stations, too. Cheese sauce tastes the exact same. The breadsticks and pan pizzas are the exact same in these spots as they were in the standalone restaurants back in the day.

Aunt Polly’s best breadsticks in town. Worse part about now living on the south side is I can’t order Aunt Polly’s anymore at 3am when I’m drunk AF.

Godfathers pizza was great back in the 70's. No need to order extra cheese, because they piled it on. They had several locations in Indy then disappeared. Not sure if they are still around as regular restaurants any place else, but a few take out locations popped up in gas stations in Indy a few years ago.

Never met a style of pizza I didn't love. Neopolitan, NY style, Detroit style, tavern style, Chicago deep dish, cast iron deep dish, cheap national take out, Hawaiian, cracker style, foldable, loaded, sparse, burned, whatever. If it's made of bread and cheese and some sort of tomato based savory sauce I'm probably in.

Bonus points if I get to drink beer with it.

Any food recs for Lafayette and Baton Rouge would be appreciated. I will be there for 2 nights for work just after Mardi Gras has passed.

There is no bad pizza. It's just some is better than others.

Outside of Toledo is J&G's. I believe I always mention that joint. No, I don't own any piece of it but it is outstanding pizza.

Disagree. You can add whatever toppings, spices, or condiments you want to try and fix these pieces of shit...you can't save this cheap cardboard crap. It's not worth the $2.50 they charge for the filth.

If you mean it tastes like gas, either farts or gasoline, then yes, no lie.

Tony's Pizzas shouldn't even be considered pizza. It's frozen abomination. I'm not sure what the crust is made out of, but I don't think it was ever dough. The pizza sauce is nasty. I think their "cheese" is mostly oil. Their pepperonis aren't even consistent...they're made of chicken/pork/beef combinations!

I keep going into this thread thinking “oh god what happened” when I see part of the title, then it ends up being a food thread and I feel somewhat relieved.

I beg to differ. The South has something wrong with a few major things.
1. Customer service.
2. The New York Style isn't NYC pizza, Chicago deep dish is off, and Godfathers pizza in the foreign owned gas station's are better then most every other option. idk If it's the ph in the water or lack of dough being correctly done with the humidity.
3. The North has every southern food chain conquered with tasty food in general. The only positive Is the BBQ and that's heartburn city, in most general areas.

If you or anyone in the Orlando, Winter Park area want the best I've tried so far down here. SoDough Square pizza
It's best in the restaurant, or in the car driving. Not so good reheated.

That...looks like the same exact thing but in different packaging. Never had it and probably never will if it's anything like Tony's.
Or these…

I used to live on Hot Pockets sadly in my 20s when I worked 3rd shift Tech Support. Not a lot of places that were open, and we weren't allowed to be away from the office long for lunch breaks in case shit hit the fan.
Original Hot Pockets > Modern Hot Pockets.
The Garlic Buttery Crust Pepperoni ones are shit imo. The Crispy Flakey Pepperoni (The ones in your pic) are closer to the original, but still not 100%.

These are the "good" ones (As far as Hot Pockets go):

Stay away from these, the crust is harder and kinda chewy, it has a weird texture, and tastes like ass (This coming from a man that loves garlic):
