Oregon and Miami haven’t really successfully poached from a true peer. They’ve absolutely preyed on coaching changes and second tier programs though, as well as the QB market.

Yeah, Gabriel Wasn’t guaranteed as starting job I believe which led him to enter the portal. Wild in retrospect by OU.

Jordan Burch might be the biggest one off the top of my head Where they just poached a kid. They had to pay a fortune for him and Evan Stewart.

Burch is an interesting example because they basically replaced him with Dylan Stewart and Kyle Kennard which was probably better bang for their buck, and evaluation, than keeping Burch. Modern college football. Harmon also cost a pretty penny.

Basically guys wanting to go open market, Oregon has won. But poaching guys not looking to leave and from teams with money, much harder.

With regards to Gabriel, I’m pretty sure OU told him they were going with Arnold. I guess Gabriel got the last laugh on that one.

OU wanted Dillon Gabriel back. Georgia wanted Carson Beck back.

Those are two off the top of my head that would qualify as poaching from an outright peer.

I know it's not the best source, but I'm pretty sure several OU 247 boards said this wasn't true and OU wanted Gabriel to start this year.

I don’t entirely agree with either of those sentiments. Both teams planned for the post Gabriel/Beck era and those plans nudged the QBs to find a different direction if they wanted to be the spotlight

Yeah, i just don't think Love is going to get enough touches to get in the Heisman / All-American discussion. Honestly for the best for his NFL career.

Hope they use him more as a WR in 2025. Could see him putting up 1,100 rushing / 500 receiving if we really get him involved there.

Wonder if with the extended season, they'll (appropriately) delay the Heisman selection. Cause he won't be held back if we make the playoffs.

It was decided on 12/14 before a single playoff game has been played. Don't know why they wouldn't delay.

One RB winner in the last 15 years. Love has virtually ZERO chance of winning the Heisman. Only remote chance for a RB requires them be the feature back getting 80% of the carries and hope that it's a down year for QB's.

I'm assuming that Love will have a great year next year as 184 Riley Leonard carries get distributed to others, But given what happened this year with injuries throughout the year and down the stretch??? No way in hell Freeman gives the bulk of the workload to Love to put up huge stats. Freeman will want him healthy for the playoffs. That means managing workload. Not a Heisman formula.

I agree with everything you're saying but to play devils advocate, Josh Adams only had about 25-30 more touches the year he was in the heisman conversation.

I have no idea what's in the best interest of ND or Love in this scenario but it would be fun to see what he could do with 20 touches a game especially behind what should be an upgraded o line.

Goolsby brought up that if he was Freeman he would talk to Deland and figure out how to get Love 2/3 of the carries or touches year because he is our most electric player.

Definitely need more two back sets with him and Price and then motion Love into the slot and use him more in the passing game. Get him the ball in space and let him work.

He touched the ball when healthy about 16 times a game in spots that weren’t blowouts

A&M - 15
NIU - 13 (low possession game)
Louisville - 16
Ga Tech - 17
Virginia - 17
USC - 16 (injured)

I think people feel he didn’t get a lot of touches when A) he was injured and B) we were up 30

It’s my understanding that he is on a pitch count that was discussed between Marcus and Love’s family. O’Malley has mentioned it several times.

This 100% even if it's using Love as a decoy/eye candy for someone else to get the ball. Can't imagine the issues opposing D's will have if Love and whoever else from the RB room is on the field at the same time, even more so if the QB is Carr/KM.

I'd like to see 3-4 of his carries be replaced with passes (not just to the flat) instead of runs up the middle. Run more wheel, angles, and hell, motion him out and get him on a crosser with a rub route.

Let's see Denbrock dig into that big bag of tricks. The defense should be shitting their pants whenever he motions out of the backfield.

I hope we get the opportunity to see a healthy Love in the playoffs next year. It's a shame his injuries limited him this year.

If Price stays around I say keep his touches similar to the 15-20 each game.

This year proved it all the more. It's a long season and we're prepping for the Natty and he needs to be healthy in January even if that means taking a few less touches in October/November

16 game season to reach the CFP finals.

Yes, Love is our most electric player, but you should be managing his workload to ensure that he's healthy and energized for a playoff run at the end of the season. There might be games where he needs to carry the rock more, but 50% of the carries for the season would be the top end.

i wouldn't expect the same from Love next year. He's already proved his worth in CFB. 2025 for him should just be about maintaining his stock and staying healthy. he has little left to prove

Love can do the most to increase/decrease his touches by being incredibly efficient. That also requires the OL to play at a high level so Love can do his damage quickly. Then, we can continue pounding the rock with 3+ incredibly effective RBs in Price, Williams and Young. I trust the staff, they've shown the willingness to do what is needed in the moment and with the long term in mind.
