A million per definitely makes leaving understandable. I don't even blame the guy.

Bowden just may not be disseminating accurate depictions of conditions at ND on Day 1 of his new job at USC.
How much is a million per in LA though?

My cousin is a dentist in San Fran and lives in a frigging studio.

Might need @TorontoGold or another accounting type to do some quick numbers on take home pay and cost of living. His effective tax rate there has to be pretty high and it's expensive to live there.

USC better be providing some housing for him. I read the rental prices are sky rocketing after the fires.

Paying the players that are great fits for the school but are currently enrolling elsewhere isn't losing your soul.
Exactly. A few months ago, Mike Frank said there were plenty of players in the 2023-2025 classes that were really good fits for ND but went elsewhere because they got a bag. If ND offered them a bag and they came to ND, they’d be fine and not be locker room cancers. A player like Rodney Dunham in the 2026 class will likely be another example of this. Seems like a great kid and is a very good student, but he’ll likely go to Tennessee or Miami. He’s a player at a position of need (DL) and is a good fit for ND, but they likely won’t give him a bag.

Cost of living in LA is around 50% higher than the national average so that’s a pretty good indicator.

Hes a baby dentist. And does pediatric dentistry. Not the lucrative stuff. After all, our baby teeth fall out.

Edit: to me it's wild that we have two sets of teeth. Kinda weird to think about. Biology is fascinating.

There is no way that ND admissions is gonna let in the kind of brainless Athletes that are the Cream of the sport. You like a Johnny football from A&M. The guy didn’t even go to classes at all, and the university flat out admitted it! Same with Ohio State University. When the day comes that ND rolls over to these punks Is the day that ND quits being ND. And anyone that disagrees can’t see further than a temporary W. What benefits a university that wins a national championship, but loses its soul?

ND Football wasn't built on Ivy League type students. ND itself wasn't. Your thinking is a result of the Stanfordization of ND. The mover and shaker alums who are now in their 80's that I know laugh at the thought of them getting into ND today yet they've donated millions to the school and to the program. Hell, Miss Bobby_Mac's family has donated/granted $100M+ to Our Lady and the family member who made the fortune didn't attend nor did any of his generation. The smart of the next 2 generations go to ND... or go to IU like my dumb old lady.

So the soul of the university was built on much more than kids with 4.5 GPA's and 1600 SAT's.

And what is more Catholic than taking a Tony Rice, the type a kid you feel would make ND lose its soul, and giving him a proper Catholic education while reaping the benefits of his athletic prowess.

We've heard time and again that ND will change you if you let it and that's coming from guys who don't fit into the 4.5 GPA RKG Club.

And as always, I close with this question... Just how much damage did Patrick Ewing and John Thompson's Championship Hoyas do to Georgetown's academic standings after that run of brainless athletes in the 80's?

I have no idea if Lake Dawson is good for the GM job. But he was my first receiver I loved as a fan of the Irish. Loved watching him play. If it wasn’t for the defense sucking ass, his two point catch to take the lead over BC in 93 would be in Irish lore.

Agreed. I've been doing some research on him. Asst. GM for the Bills, Director of College Scouting.
Bowden kind of fell upwards into the GM position. If GM is going to be a real thing in college, we might as well get an actual professional in the position.

This.

You can still go out and hire the 20 something influencer type that plays Tetris with recruits and likes the same mumble rappers.

Why the hell are you working so much? Let’s get you retired and working remote for the recruiting staff ASAP (I know a real good financial planner - user name starts with FW and ends in 4).

He just 3x’d his salary, his take home will be a ton higher and probably can get a comparable place to live. His quality of life will be more than 3x to live in LA than South Bend.

Salesman get replaced all the time, for the reasons I've read I am glad he is gone and as long as Lincoln Riley is the head coach at USC I don't see them being a big threat in the Big10.

If you have a 3.0-ish GPA and have an average SAT score, you can get into ND to play football. People forget that Weis and Kelly got multiple average/below average students through Admissions. Robert Hughes and Ian Williams had 2.5 GPA's from public high schools. Paddy Mullen had a 2.3 GPA entering his Senior Year.

Also an ATL native……..recruiting at all those programs will certainly be invaluable, lots of connections. He held the GM position at UNC and GA Tech.
