It's really interesting because Bama is just getting a pure pass based on "talent" and brand. No other team would get this much latitude for losing to Vandy and Oklahoma. They lost to 6-6 Oklahoma by 3 TDs lol....

Basically, there are two things from this past weekend warping the field:
1. Georgia escaping Georgia Tech on pure officiating malfeasance.
2. Clemson losing to South Carolina this past weekend at the buzzer.

If Clemson was rated at #11ish no one would be batting an eye here. Don't cry for Miami because they should be a 3-4 loss team... their defense is pure garbage.

I guess losing to Michigan and Oklahoma doesn’t matter anymore
With respect to Ohio State, it's hard to drop them very far relative to the teams behind them because they beat PSU and Indiana... those are two elite wins. In fact, I have a major issue with them being slotted behind Georgia at the moment, but the committee did that because of the upcoming championship games.

Shouldn't we be excited to play Bama then instead of ASU?

We definitely want Penn st. To lose big against Oregon but it seems that if Georgia were to beat Texas that a Texas loss could keep us from a 5 seed and leave us at 6. Thoughts?

I think they’re gonna park PSU at 5 regardless of outcome against Oregon.

They’ll say it’s because they have a better loss than ND, and because their win over Illinois is better than ND’s win over Army.

But really it’s because the B1G is the B1G, and ND is gonna continue to get the shaft as long as they’re “special”

Not sure I follow, how are stats skewing the picture? Stats are stats

Zero % chance, they win they move up...they lose they move down. I bet they lose by 24+
It is definitely not a zero chance that they stay where they are. Committee has them ahead of us for weeks. They won’t change it unless Penn St gets crushed. The point spread is 3.5. So a close game is the most likely result

Bama is very beatable this year, this isn’t a Saban team. Milroe is prone to mistakes and their running game isn’t great. The WR corps is also not up to recent standards. The D is OK but nothing crazy. The winter weather in SB will not be something they look forward to either.

Penn state isn’t going to get punished unless they get blown out, which seems unlikely.

PSU’s best win Illinois would be an underdog against SC, Texas A&M, Louisville, and maybe Army. But they are ranked above Army, who is our only “ranked” win.

This committee just is so incompetent. Have no idea how to balance SOS with wins and losses.

Don’t care. Not interested in playing them. They’re one of a handful of teams that can beat us with a talent stick regardless of how “vulnerable” they look. Anyone asking to play them is asking for heartbreak.

Give me ASU or SMU.

All ND had to do was not lose to NIU.
That’s a tired argument. They killed everyone else and Penn St has looked awful. The committee is clearly looking past losses (bad ones at that) with certain teams. So why is the only unforgivable sin in the entire field the NIU game?

So ESPN is putting out the FPI thing and ignoring it? Nobody with a peep about ND at 10-1 seeded below two other 10-1 teams while being #1 in the FPI

I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped behind us with a loss, even a close loss. But I wouldn't expect them to drop, say, 5 spots or something like that. The idea that the Committee won't "punish" a conference championship game loser I think just means they won't drop really far, not that they won't drop at all.

But if we do end up with Bama while they get ASU and then BSU, that's the cost of the NIU debacle.

Don't think there's any way PSU stays ahead of ND if they lose this weekend, regardless of how close it is.

ND has to worry about something like Texas or SMU losing, which I do think could push them down the rankings. But the common opponent thing is important and ND has the edge there over PSU.

We should be above Penn State and I think we will after Saturday. If not, I still think we match up well with Bama. I'd honestly be more worried about Clemson than Bama weirdly enough.

The BS is they said they put 3 loss Bama in over Miami bc they are 3-1 against current top 25 and Miami has no wins against top 25. ND is 2-0 against current top 25 and PSU is 1-1. In addition, ND is 4-0 against ranked teams during the season when game was played and PSU is still 1-1. Finally, common opponent PSU beat USC by 3 and ND won by 14. Nothing gives edge to PSU.

If Army wins the AAC, they go above Illinois for the final ranking. With a PSU championship game loss, that makes the likelihood of ND taking the 5-slot a lock.

We're Oregon and Army fans this weekend.
And Clemson, not because I'm afraid of Bama. Just don't think they deserve to be there!

I agree with not wanting to play Bama. They are the team that even on their off day, could still beat us on our off day given their talent. Here's the options of what we need to root for to not play them, in my opinion:

1. Clemson beats SMU close and committee keeps SMU in
2. Georgia beats Texas and Penn St. beats Oregon, pushing us down to the 7 seed (to likely play Indiana)
3. Penn St. gets destroyed by Oregon and they punish them by moving us ahead to the 5 seed
4. Arizona State passes Bama in the rankings with a win in the Big 12 championship and gets the 11 seed

I hate a Big 10 AD as the chairman…and Big 10 conference gets more money per how their teams perform and advance. Conflict of interest in a billion dollar industry where OSU is hosting vs Tenn after losing to a .500 at home when favored by 3 TDs. And Penn St who is still ahead of ND who has been trending ahead of them for the past 3 weeks and now has a total body of work, besides a worse loss, that screams “better than this team” in direct comparison.
