I think he made a mistake too but to be fair he probably wouldn't be seeing the field much at ND this year, given the talent upgrade at WR.
Agree, but we also probably approach the transfer portal a little bit differently if Rico stays. I think he’d at least break the rotation and at least have a shot this year.

He’s also been hurt at UCLA, but the offense has been pretty terrible independent of him. Maybe he thought he’d be the guy there.

Our portal take who'd be closest to Rico's skill set is probably Kris Mitchell? Also Thomas and Greathouse have been healthy this year.
I'm not sure I see Flores as better than any of those guys. But yeah maybe we don't take Mitchell if Flores sticks around and we think he can develop over a couple of years.

UCLA scored 35 points today, had several receivers with multiple catches, and Rico didn’t make the stat sheet… he hurt?

EDIT: He’s banged up and tried to go in pregame, but was “Out” on UCLA’s injury report

I think some of you just want him to say “I fucked up, should have stayed at ND.”

He left for a few reasons, most of them personal. Far from home, single mom. He had his little Blietnikoff quote or whatever, but he wasn’t wrong lol this offense isn’t going to create a college award winner, and if that is his goal kuddos to him for shooting high.

He’s gonna end up with a UCLA degree which is shit and never make a playoff. While ND is gonna make a run and play in mutiple playoffs he woulda been a 2-3 round pick if he stayed the course.

Having a college degree isn't "shit."

He made his choice. Couldn't care less about this right now. SC on Saturday.

I mean I’m sure there’s some study out there that compares earning potential of UCLA vs ND degrees…but I’d also suspect a UCLA degree carries a bit of clout in SoCal.

Whatever. I don’t wish him ill. Our track record of guys transferring out and being productive elsewhere is pretty solid. Holden Staes may be the best of the bunch. Possibly Ovie Ogufuo (I’m not looking up the spelling, idc) on defense at TX.

OK that piqued my curiosity.

Rico has 12 catches, third on UCLA among WRs. That would actually be good for third on our team too, but we look to have a deeper WR rotation.
Tobias Merriweather appears to still be hurt all the time and hasn't caught a ball all season for Cal.
Braylon James has one catch for three yards.

I don't think we're missing much from that crew.
That is surprising, IMO. I thought he had the potential to be really good (and he may get there before the graduates). I have no idea what TCU's WR depth is like, but I know they do pull a couple good ones in recruiting every year or so.

James has actually doubled his production since that post. He now has 2 catches for 6 yards on the season. Good for 16th on the tcu team, respectively.

I know you post a lot of dumb shit but this is one of the dumbest takes you've had. A UCLA degree is definitely not "shit." It's one of the top schools in the country.

If you knew anything about the kid's background even him making it to third level education was a huge accomplishment

That’s interesting…….I remember hearing rumors he didn’t like to play school. I guess this is another example of how rumors can be false!
I think ND can be especially intimidating for incoming student athletes. The step up from their high school for many of them is huge. I think a lot of them probably question whether they want to (or are able to) put in the amount of effort it takes to be successful. I’m sure a lot of players have questioned out loud their decision or desire to compete in the classroom.

20 years ago, as a California resident, I got into ND, Brown, Penn, Northwestern Vandy but rejected from UCLA
I remember that same frustration. Accepted by Cornell, Vandy, ND, and Berkeley...rejected by UC Davis, UCLA, USC...I think admissions sometimes just plays dizzy bat before choosing lol

My aunt teaches at a high end private high school out east. Has some doctorate in biology or something. Anyway.

She says she encourages her best girls to apply and choose Notre Dame over just about anywhere because the likelihood of getting an A at Notre Dame is substantially less likely that at the higher rated ones. College is supposed to be difficult.

Had a frosh dorm mate that transferred out of Purdue engineering into ND engineering (dad was a prof at ND)
This was 10 years ago and still talks about how much easier ND engineering was compared to Purdue
