Sounds like ND may slightly lead for Derrick Meadows, Madden Faraimo, Jalen Wiggins, and be tied for Andrew Olesh.

If we get 3 of those 4 I think we have to feel really good about this class. Still missing the edge rusher but with two on IR coming back next year, we will survive. This recruiting class seems to have lost some steam, maybe it's the Deuce loss and the fact we wrapped up to many early on, but it sure will be good if we get 3/4. Just don't feel great about DL but Wiggins would help that.

They added a running back over the weekend after getting three commitments in October and are "favored" to land three more players and possibly a fourth.

How have they lost steam?

I guess I'm looking past 3-star types and focused on whether we're evening with the big boys.

Richardson committed one month after being offered by Alabama.

Hebert is a four star who was flipped from Clemson.

Herron is a Hoosier OL that was committed to Iowa, which shouldn't require any explanation. He had offers from Duke, Army, Northwestern. Absolute culture fit.

Nolan probably stopped listing new offers a while ago but Duke, Princeton, UVA stand out in terms of culture fit, in addition to being from a Jersey Catholic school.

The environment of the sport has changed dramatically in just the last two years let alone post pandemic. We can make jokes about shopping down different aisles and all of that, but the fact remains that Notre Dame is going to have to build a program differently than the majority of the pack. This is probably going to be the best class they've had in over a decade and well within the margins of being Freeman's best to date. Positional needs are going to be addressed.

Everyone is free to consume recruiting how they want and feel whatever feels one might have when looking at things on paper, but I honestly think that when you get down the crust of some of these kids they have coming in you should be a little more excited about the potential. The dudes who are sniffing around Michigan and SEC schools for payouts aren't going to be long term solutions.

I only see 1 stars shooting from his fingertips...is this Bruce Heggie's brother?
LMAO. This board would go ape shit if we took a commitment from a Heggie type. And it would be glorious.

The fact that Heggie is still brought up after this many years, can we label him an "ND Man"?

To note, Jaded can be a little less jaded. Both guys up top are composite 4 stars now.

This is a very good post.

I do also believe that this staff can get some more flashy prospects.

Appreciate that.

I think so, too, but as we've discussed before that is going to have to take timing along with some credibility. Which will be established by getting some signature wins.

I think you are right, it has lost steam. But, as you said, if we land 3 of 4 we finish solid. There is still a massive talent gap on paper between us and the truly elite, but until we win on the field I think this is our ceiling. Just got to win now, it really is that simple imo.

I think everyone can agree the worst prospect we ever went after...1 star, 2 star?

The 1 time NFL bloodlines didnt pan out lol

He seems to be doing well and is a ND man...

Playing with the class calculator since we got up for a call the best we can finish is probably 7th unless the top 6 have some major exits.

That’s with us finishing with
Faramio
Olesh
Wiggins
Parham

Or switching Parham with Meadows. Although the final number would be higher. And obviously depending on how the final rankings go.

Deuce Knight committing elsewhere is likely to have a good effect on us. More money to spread around

Could care less about the class ranking. Needs are going to be met, spots filled. They got the QB to come in and compete. The OL is absolutely awesome and strengthens a strength. The secondary guys show great promise. Two more talented RBs.

I absolutely love that close with those players and the pundits can rank it wherever they want. Those additions with the collection of guys already put together makes for a strong group going into summer preseason camp.

The greatest advice I was given when I was a grad assistant was from Charlie Partridge, now the DL coach for the Colts: never think about the guys you didn't get. Celebrate the guys you did get and enjoy ever fax that comes over.

I get where you are coming from but the top dogs in recruiting “normally” are the ones playing in the national championship.

With the playoffs now we will have to see how this changes the game. If we can finish with Meadows, Wiggins, Faraimo, and Parham we as ND fans should be happy.

This comes after flipping James (RB), Herron (OL), Hebert (QB).

Yes I would like to see more top 100 players and I think they can get a few more in the future. But this is really good finish to the 25 class if we get them all and don’t lose any.

Michigan's title last year (while somewhat fortuitous) shows you that depth everywhere + a murderous defense/OL can = national title. Sure, UGA and OSU are going to get a bunch of Top 100 guys, and ND needs to as well. But we're never going to be at that level. Ever.

ND's path to a national championship needs to be Top 10-15 recruiting classes, solid depth at every position, with the transfer portal used to bring in difference makers to supplement the roster. This class (and the last two Freeman has signed) is exactly the right way to do things from an ND perspective, and ND continues to build depth everywhere.

The foundation is strong and this class adds to that.

Roster composition is a fluid process. Go back and look at the 2021 class. Joe Alt and Mitchell Evans were three star players.

The "top dogs" are going to overpay for a lot of guys who are going to turn out to be duds. Notre Dame is going to solidify rosters and develop players who will be part of a program together. Sure, they're going to have some guys transfer out. We've seen that already. They're not going to have a mercenary merry go round like what we're seeing at Oregon, Miami, etc.

Give it time. NIL, the Portal, conference realignment, playoff expansion. It's going to be football Darwinism.

Agreed. The only thing I'd add is a talented QB who can run and doesn't turn it over.

Michigan had a couple things going there way. You know, that whole cheating thing. Also, COVID gave an extra year to players, they were a very senior team and convinced a bunch of guys to come back and compete for a NC and it worked. Not saying you can't still get a senior team without COVID.

Honestly, it's the only blueprint I see working for ND in today's college landscape. We aren't going to get 5 star playmakers all over the field, endless 5 star DL and LBs like the Georgia's and Bamas of the world. We'll have to be a mature team that has all the pieces come together the same season (thank you Captain Obvious).

I've said it before and I'll say it again, had ND convinced at least one of Alt/Fischer to come back, AND we could have stayed relatively healthy (our poor defense), we'd have had a real shot, maybe even been a favorite this year.

But, those small things are likely to be the difference between us winning and not winning a NC this year.

I think we have a shot this year because there is no great team. Right now, ND needs to be a combo of Michigan, good Clemson, and a down year. One elite year (hello QB and WRs) then we can make a jump that helps us big time

I agree we still have a shot this year, but can you imagine with those small changes?
