The flames of this one already being stoked?
It's probably just an internet fever dream at this point but that's also how you mobilize alums to foot the bill.

As an IU fan I will be nervous until they announce an extension. I don't pretend to know what Cignetti wants or prefers. He is in a position to ditctate terms.

I'm surprised that WVU didn't make this happen sooner since he is a former player. Maybe there is a story there.

Cignetti and Brown both make about the same right now. I'm not going to assume who has a financial edge between WVU and IU, but I am going to assume Florida could make it happen over both if they really wanted him and he wanted to go.

Napier's buyout would be somewhere in the $25 million range. Not astronomical like a few other coaches on the hotseat, but Florida can easily can that one done.
I saw on a Florida show that they can’t really afford it because they are still paying Dan Mullen & want to get a big time coach, but can’t afford to pay Mullen, pay Napier $25 million, & pay a coach $7-8 million a year, which would be the minimum for a big hire.

If they fire Napier, they are going to have to hire a young, G5 coach, up-and-comer for $3-4 million a year.

A name off the top of my head would be Alex Golesh. Fits the mold off up-and-comer, and likely cheap. Very little head coaching experience however. Spent a few seasons at Tennessee as an OC, and was part of that 2022 offense, who essentially put up points and yards vs every team they played that year besides Georgia.

But, it's the same model they used when they hired Napier. Young, inexperienced, G5 coach.

They need to throw some NIL money his way he could start right away

There is going to need to be some physical development before that happens.

Wiggins is about 260. Ideally 290 needs to be his playing weight. Our DT situation is not bad enough that an undersized true freshman will start.

You think he will start right away for ND in 2025?
No way.
He isn’t in the same stratosphere as Young, & he is even slowly working his way into reps.

I was listening to a FSU show last night describe the possible landscape of available coaches and it was dire. He was trying to talk himself in Manny Diaz for a few minutes.

It really seems to be the case. We may very well be in a new era.

I still think these morons are going to find tens of millions to make people go away and make salaries skyrocket.

IMO, if they think they can hire Cignetti then Napier gets axed regardless of his last four games.
I think he's done for the simple fact they can't win or compete in "The Swamp". Terrible home record and 8-13 in conference during his tenure.

I think Coach Prime at Florida State could be scary. The swagger he carries with the fertile recruiting ground of Florida, could become a monster.

I agree that he may not be the best coach, but him as the CEO......I could see him being able to "recruit" some good coaches while he just steers the ship.

Napier being retained. Idk how that helps/hurts here.

Like what he has done on a smaller scale so far

According to Loy, hurts ND and helps UF. However, I think they're just delaying the inevitable, and he won't turn that school around. I wonder how much UF is putting into NIL and facilities as you don't really hear much about them.

Very true, not to mention Florida being on the books for Mullen, looks like they'll have to bite the bullet for at least another season with Napier. Money owed combined with no employed coach candidate to jump shit = S.O.L
