He was never a realistic flip candidate. We fall for this every year with someone like Wiggins.Sounds like he had a great time at UF today, said he is solid with them

*Taps sign*So this is the 2025 SEC lineman who checks out Notre Dame and then stays with their SEC program?

So what, we’re gonna Hinish our way to a championship caliber D line?He was never a realistic flip candidate. We fall for this every year with someone like Wiggins.

You have to keep trying for these guys.
Definitely still recruit them. My point was more for us to not get our hopes up with these big-time targets supposedly being ready to flip to ND near the end of recruiting. So what, we’re gonna Hinish our way to a championship caliber D line?

The 2026 class should be put up or shut up time for Washington from a recruiting perspective. He needs a great haul. Not a good haul, not a decent haul filled with projects and tweeners. A great haul. No more 250 pound guys who you hope can turn into 300 pound DT’s 3 years down the line. He probably needs 4 blue-chip DL in the 2026 class, with at least 2 of them being DT’s with some size. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and he’s a quality coach, but you can’t afford to keep him if he’s going to leave you with holes on the recruiting front. Heck, the II crew has basically said that the DT situation is alarming in the years going forward and that Washington recruited himself into that situation.Washington seems to be good but not great coach but his recruiting needs to improve A lot .
I really hope this isn’t a Betelgeuse type of thingDefinitely still recruit them. My point was more for us to not get our hopes up with these big-time targets supposedly being ready to flip to ND near the end of recruiting.

Yet he continues to turn those projects in contributors and maybe not stars but guys who can hold their own and play their role in allowing AG’s scheme to be successful. He is a better coach and developer of talent than he is getting credit for.Definitely still recruit them. You can definitely have multiple misses. And high four and five stars on DL is no guarantee (see the Keeley thread). Go back to the Elston model with numbers expansion and bring in 7-8 with proper measurables instead of four and lower your need for precision.Hinish is a player. Not other worldly or anything, but he make some plays and does what he is asked to do. Every successful team has guys just like him...stars be damned. I don't disagree the DL recruiting (particularly DT) needs to pick up, but Hinish types are not the problem IMO.
Guys like Vernon/Houston are bound to happen (not giving up on either yet), but you can't have multiple misses or everyone be a developmental project. I've liked the look of Sevillano as a space eater as he's flashed some explosiveness IMO for his limited action.
