Wow
Very brave of youLet me say something many will not say, I am glad we have Denbrock.
It’s a tough job, but somebody needs to say it. Remember my sacrificeVery brave of you

East Carolina has fired Mike Houston, following yesterday's loss to Army. The Pirates were 27-38 in Houston's 5+ seasons in charge and were 3-4 this season. While they did make it to bowl games in 2021 and 2022, they have been just 5-14 since. Houston was never quite able to replicate the success he had at James Madison, prior to taking the East Carolina job in 2019.
I don't know about firing him after/during Year 2. That could really put them on a path they'd rather not go down.Whole lotta Purdue folks are itching to see Ryan Walters pop up on this list. Can’t say I disagree. Purdue needs to go back to the well of “crazy offensive innovator” in their next HC, whenever that occurs. Walters felt like a weird reach from the jump—kind of like a Dollar Tree MFMF type vibe.
Rice HC out

Had a college teammate coach at Rice for a few years, it's kind of amazing the difficulty they have being good considering the location. They should be able to grab enough talent based on their location and school pedigree to be more of a presence among the G5 schoolsRice might be looking at some of these other G5 success stories and said they've had enough. It's a hard job, but they're right in the middle of very rich recruiting grounds.
Do they just not invest in football? B/c they could totally be the Stanford of Texas if they wanted.Had a college teammate coach at Rice for a few years, it's kind of amazing the difficulty they have being good considering the location. This was a few years ago and I asked that same question. From the sounds of it the school as a whole just doesn't value having a good football program like that. I dunno if it's financials or what, it's just not a priority for themDo they just not invest in football? B/c they could totally be the Stanford of Texas if they wanted.
It's striking how the academically-strongest schools in the deep South are so not good at football.
Like with Stanford, Northwestern, Duke, Wake, BC, they have their ups and downs and they're not going to win a national championship, but at least they're generally competitive P4 programs. Whereas Vandy (historically) sucks, Tulane's a mid G5 and Rice is irrelevant. Are there not 80 football players in Texas who'd love to get a good education?

I just don't think they view it as worth the money.Rice has one of the largest endowments in the country, lots of oil money there. Financials are NOT the problem.

Take a look at how Alabama's out of state enrollment exploded during the Saban years. Their tuition increases were above the national average as well. It may not make sense for certain colleges/universities, but to simply dismiss it is not right either.I really enjoy college football but I’m not sure what purpose sports programs serve at the majority of colleges these days given the costs associated with building, running and maintaining the sports facilities.
