Man, nothing was quite like a movie night growing up. Parents load us up in the car, pick a movie or two, maybe a video game if we were lucky/well behaved lol, grab a hot pizza, popcorn.
Yep, going to the new release walls in the back. Hoping the movie was still available for rent.

I'm usually not a nit-picker for details in movies, especially those I really like, but I was re-watching "Heat" last night and some stuff stuck out to me as off. The opening armored truck heist appears to take place in the morning from all evidence. So why doesn't Lt. Hanna & his squad get to the crime scene until night? It took his team the whole day to respond to a call of multiple murders and armed robbery? Of course, that scene is much more dramatic and interesting being shot at night, but still.

Then when McCauley and his team meet Waingro at the diner to whack him in the parking lot, doesn't it seem out of character for the controlled, disciplined McCauley to lose it and smack Waingro's head around, causing a scene and drawing attention? I would think being low key and not assaulting a guy you are about to murder in a crowded restaurant would be the way to go.

And why is Waingro being held in protective custody at the end of the film at an airport hotel? The guy is a cooperating witness in a major crime plus is an ex-con. There's no way Waingro should be held anywhere but solitary confinement lockup; not a hotel room with one security guard that McCauley easily takes down.

None of this takes away from my enjoyment of the film, I still like "Heat" quite a bit. Maybe it's just natural after seeing a movie so many times to start to notice little inconsistencies like that. Or maybe it's part of getting old. Who knows?

Megalopolis was so so good imo. Of course a "strange" movie, but so unique from anything else I've seen in Hollywood. Certainly a one of a kind. My ADHD brain is also "better" at following loose/dreamy storylines so I had very little problems keeping up. But still so many "hidden" easter eggs Francis dropped in that I'll have to go back and study up on.

Saw Beetlegeuse 2 a few weeks ago with the family. If you're a fan of the first movie I think you'll enjoy the sequel. There's plenty of call backs, but the movie can still be followed without knowing them. Follows the formula, nothing really ground breaking or different, but still done well I thought. Obviously a number of the former cast is there. If there was one thing I would have liked to see more of it's Michael Keaton. He didn't really miss a beat with the character, he brought the same energy and stole every scene he was in. There's a few twists along the way. I thought it was fairly fun, but again, stayed very close to the original formula so don't expect anything ground breaking.

Transformers One was good for what it is. My kids love Tranformers so must watch in our house.

I find it hard to find anything worth the price. We use to go to the movies 2-3 a month. Now I probably haven’t been to 10 movies in the last 5 years. Sadly most of those haven’t done much to justify it. As negative as that sounds, I really crave a good story to watch.

We go to a cheap place in Niles, MI for $5. Bring our own snacks.

I have been focusing on watching movies I haven't seen before rather than re-watching stuff.

"Glass." Good but not great. The cast mostly carries it but Shamaylan does a good job of not overwriting and making things too complex. The twist at the end isn't the most satisfying but actually makes sense about how society would react to super beings.

"Videodrome." One of David Cronenberg's early works from 1983. It's everything you would expect: weird, dark, violent, and gross. They definitely don't make 'em like this anymore. James Woods is great. It's such a tragedy that we don't see him acting anymore. He's such a singular screen presence.

"The Killer." John Woo remakes his own Hong Kong action classic from 1989 and really should have left it alone. It's visually beautiful but it just doesn't draw you in like the original. Plus, Woo's action choreography has fallen way off. The action scenes are pale imitations of the grand bullet-fests he used to serve up. I got halfway through and lost interest. Since I'll be on Peacock today anyway to watch Notre Dame maybe I'll flip it back on after the game just to see if the 2nd half can redeem the movie.

Agree. We watched the first one with our kids about 1 month ago in preparation for the release. Of course I grew up with the original, so I loved the throwbacks. Overall it was very good, and my kids also enjoyed it.

New Lego movie documenting Pharrell was a fun watch. After watching, not sure how it could have been anything other than a Lego movie. 7.5/10 as a fan of a lot of the music

Watched a couple of John Wayne movies. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and The Horse Soldiers. Definitely a couple of his best.
Used to watch the Duke on occasion with my old man. I liked True Grit, the Green Berets, and I think McLintock. There are others I've forgotten. A few years ago I was listening to Thomas F. Wilson (Biff from Back to the Future) talk about how Buford "Maddog" Tannen was based on the character Liberty Valence from "The Man That Shot Liberty Valance." He gave high praise for the film, which has a pretty good cast attached aside from John Wayne (James Stewart, Vera Miles, Lee Marvin, Lee Van Cleef, etc). Ended up tracking that down and watching it, was a great flick.

That is a good movie with a great cast.

The Searchers is also one of his better ones with a great cast.

I like "Liberty Valence" a lot. The rumor is that the studio was very tight with the budget so director John Ford had to do everything he could to save pennies. That's why so much of it is shot on sound stages & back lots and also why the movie is in B&W. I don't know how true that is (I mean, one of Hollywood's biggest directors at the time was making a movie with 2 of the biggest movie stars ever, how was money an issue?). But I think the look helps the film. It's so shadowy & claustrophobic that it's like a neo-noir western. I like how the movie plays with ideas of fact vs legend, heroism, masculinity. It's a bit of a precursor to what "Unforgiven" was dealing with. And no one has made calling someone "dude" sound as threatening & sinister as Lee Marvin did. Good stuff.

I love those old classic WWII movies from that era like The Longest Day, The Battle Of Britain, Battle Of The Bulge, Midway, and etc. A Bridge Too Far is a great one!

I haven’t seen this but I struggle to imagine a picture with a better cast. Wow. The modern equivalent would have to be something like The Departed.
