This said, I still doubt more than maybe a handful of Haitians are eating pets in Springfield, probably just a few that haven't gotten benefits yet. The fact most of them do have benefits and EBT cards with thousands of dollars loaded on them makes it unlikely there's a lot of cat eating going on.

Is it late stage capitalism that decriminalized theft and is forcing retailers to flee cities because their stores are being regularly looted?
Except that's not what caused retail stores to close.. Not being able to compete with online shipping and rising rent costs is what's lead to retail stores closing

Disagree with what? Everything I posted was a statistical fact. Rich people moving to red states to avoid income tax doesn't mean they want the leaders of their new states, that are all net drains on the economy, to be the ones leading the country.
I don't think anyone states are drains on the economy.

If any state disappeared tomorrow, the economy would be harmed immediately.

Yes, absolutely. Worsening economic conditions of the middle class and widening the divide between the haves and have nots is why people steal.

I would love to see some of data to support your claims, but I know how this sort of thing goes. Starts with "ITS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE!!!" to then "Well, you see, it happened a few times but still 1 is too many!".

Actually, we looted the shit out of our malls in Chicago. Pillaged them into extinction. The transgender athletes can run fast and carry a lot out of Claries, Cinnabon and Foot Locker.

Not Amazon bringing it to your door in a day.

the increase in shoplifting offenses appears to be slowing in Los Angeles and potentially even reaching a plateau. In New York, the number of offenses may be declining, however slowly.

This dynamic makes it difficult to precisely estimate the volume of crimes against retail businesses.

Roughly three-quarters of all thefts go undocumented.

Those three excerpts tell me, it's hard to really know what the real numbers are, but like all other crime it will eventually spike and then go down. Targets new method of reporting creates a large spike so it will take some time to know where they stand. Given the time period when things were spiking, I'm curious to know if stores implemented new measures to deter stealing?

Yes Toronto, one Dyson getting stolen from Target is one too many.

You know what else helped kill these stories?

Private Equity plundering all of them.

Not entirely true. A year or two ago, there were retailors in Portland(?) that were closing stores. The CEO's referenced theft as the reason.

So the larceny rates decreasing, what does that tell you.

Yeah, maybe not a nationwide issue, but some cities have definitely been hit harder by theft than others. Can't imagine the kind of hassle it is to pay for security measures like this and then having to call over an employee just to get a $5 bottle of toothpaste.

Because cities like SF have effectively stopped enforcing any petty theft laws. The felony limit has been raised to $950 and no arrests are made for misdemeanor theft nor do the charges stack up. Just because you aren’t enforcing laws and you can say “Larceny rates are going down” doesn’t make it true. Stores closing due to insane loss in theft and security measures like locked up toothpaste shown above do not jive at all with claims that larceny is lowering.

“Earlier this year, Target said it expected theft-related losses at its stores could top $1.2 billion this fiscal year. CEO Brian Cornell told analysts last month that violent incidents against Target workers jumped 120% for the first five months of the year compared to the same period last year.”

I don't think anyone can deny blue city centers are generally shit holes, specifically what you see on social media.

Now whenever I go to an ND game I stay in Chicago for a few days and have a blast. I don't see anything crazy that I wouldn't see in any other city.

New Orleans is probably the roughest city I have been too.

So did they release the data or no?

Larceny rates decreasing, does this matter?

It tells me it went down. It’s a start, but the real measure of progress is it dipping below pre-spike averages? Like Joe talking about gas going down fifty cents after it went up $1.00.

“See larceny rates are decreasing, look at what the police said!”

Companies “we are closing stores because of large increases in theft and decreasing safety of our employees with rampant violent robberies”

Me: Sees stores with locked up toiletries

Makes sense that the Canadian blindly believes what his government reports to him

Chicago (where I am right now) is fine from Wacker to Wrigley. It’s the rest where you just don’t go. Police are up and down the magnificent mile because that’s tourism and money. This area has above average crime but it’s normal city life here. Go south loop and beyond and it’s an adventure. Even on wacker I’ve seen tons of homeless, pooping, drugs, and that crap.

You can’t even figure out who my government is, is it Canadian or American? Lol

I’m glad a free thinking person like yourself is telling me about how I’m just blindly trusting stuff when I’ve got data from one side (Police) and a press release without any figures. I deal with retail shrinkage all the time and there’s a very good chance that the majority of theft is from employees themselves.

I mean I've seen that in pretty much every city. Do you think FL has cities without issue because it votes republican?

Said no one ever. There is literally an East Chicago, Indiana.

Wilmette IL is basically North Chicago is this is true.

Whenever you ask people from around the world where they like to visit it's always Gary Indiana, skip Chicago!
Funny story. I was looking for a former mayor of Gary about 2-3 months ago to question about a something… found the guy sitting in his own piss higher than kite (not marijuana high)and refused to talk to a whitey in a suit.

You guys are so ignorant of Indiana. There is nothing red about Gary and most of northwest Indiana. That little slice of heaven in Gary is even in the same time zone as Chicago and doesn’t split into eastern time until just after Gary. Gary is at the very least the red headed step child of Indiana.

Miami has a Republican governor and mayor. Miami has much of the same issues other cities do.

The case with the majority of these places is that the worst parts are relegated to a couple of different areas, all of which tourists are going to avoid anyway. Typically you're going to hit Navy Pier, The Bean and Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, not Englewood and West Garfield Park. It's also important to note how these areas are policed versus how safer areas are patrolled in comparison, which is rather uncomfortable and contentious when it comes to having that conversation.

Wreck It Rahm closed half of the mental health clinics in Chicago to save tax payers a few million dollars. Anyone want to guess what happened next? Crime went up. Add in all of the schools he closed on top of that and it was a mess on top of another mess. Neoliberal bullshit that targeted communities that were already fucked to begin with. To be fair to Mayor 1%, all 50 city council members voted for these cuts. D and R alike.

They're currently in the process of reopening 3 of these mental health clinics in some of the worst neighborhoods. Hopefully it does some good.
