Let him know that it's not that big of a deal and he should just have fun. Tell him to pretend he's out there kicking your ass instead of another kid.
Future rounds with him, amp up the pressure: Talk in his back swing, rag him if he chunks one, miss this putt and you're doing my laundry for a month, miss this green and I'm spending your college funds on a mid life crisis car. If he lags one short, make him putt with a pink ball.

Regional tourneys will be a breeze when he's been putting to avoid folding your underwear.

Is weed legal in your state? Helps to relax with gummie for some people. Maybe watch caddie shack before he goes? See the ball, be the ball……
Swing for the fences. If he has to shoot his best round or a round that is usually out of his reach then he has nothing to lose by going big. Hit that driver off the deck to get on that par 5 in two!

Good luck to him and when he’s done even if he doesn’t make it tell him to remember his best shots of the day and live to play another. Being able to play golf often is a privilege to be enjoyed!

It's even worse as a father cuz you are literally powerless to do anything. At least when I'm playing I can control some things. With him, I just have to watch, good or bad.
I’ve learned to just enjoy watching my son compete. He's only 7 but a natural at baseball. He started pitching last year, it was tough to watch him struggle when he couldn’t find the strike zone. You feel helpless as a parent. Eventually, I stopped agonizing over it and started focusing on how hard he plays and how much effort he puts in, win or lose.

I still lose it or just stare him down when he chases a terrible pitch at the plate though. He gets pissed about it, then Mrs. Wild Bill stares me down and it's just a total shit show all bc he can't lay off a fuckin chin high pitch.

Anyway, you already know what to do - tell him you're proud of him and encourage him to do his best. That's all you can do my man. Good luck!

Playing in the West Point baseball outing today. There’s an Oktoberfest happening at the course. My wise mouth and German beers around new people could set the tone for a long four years. Pray for me brothers.

Question for my golf brethren.

I'm in the market for some new golf shoes. Being that I'm fat and old, I've actually started liking sketchers and they've got some decently fashionable shoes now. I love the slip ins.

Has anybody tried the sketchers golf shoes? What are your thoughts if so.

Also, any general suggestions for golf shoes is appreciated. Keep in mind I'm not good just enjoy golfing. Thanks in advance

I have some comfortable FootJoy BOAs. They aren't the old school design, but more sneaker looking, and I've been wearing them for two years. Really enjoy them.

I bought some Nike Air Max last spring. Best golf shoe that I’ve had.

Stay away from Adidas…first pair my spikes were falling off in 3 months and the second absolutely tore my feet up.

Don't know if this is helpful or confusing, but I have three different pair of shoes I rotate through based on the environment I am playing in.

I have a pair of Ogio that are water proof that I wear when it's raining. They are really comfortable shoes, but they are also super heavy.

I have a pair of Adidas that look like the Adidas Samba indoor soccer shoe. Super comfortable and light weight. I wear them when I walk as they are the most comfortable. Only drawback is the don't have as much grip.

Lastly, I have a pair of Jordan III golf shoes that I wear most of the time I am in a golf cart. Very comfortable and extremely good grip.

I walk 90% of my rounds and wear New Balance trail jogging shoes. Super lightweight with aggressive enough tread to not slip in most conditions.

Do you walk or ride?
What is your style?
Do you like spikes or spikeless?

Stay away from adidas and under armour.

I've had several footjoy's and they're always the most comfortable.

I have a couple pairs of the FootJoy Flex XPs. Great shoes and more comfortable than my tennis shoes. My feet used to ache after a round of golf even if riding, but not with these. Would love to be able to wear them every day.

I’ve been messing around with the LAB OZ 1 and the Bettinardi Antidote 2 whenever I go to PGA Superstore. I get $400 reimbursement from work for health related items, and clubs count.

Decided to go with the TaylorMade 790s
Rocket launchers. They're a little hot in the face for my tastes, but would play them in the long irons.
Hopefully you're a consistent ball striker otherwise you'll get some crazy fliers.

I like to blend my sets and would've gone P770 in the 7-P and P790 4-6 bent two degrees weak to match up the lofts.

I think I’m consistently enough, but will definitely have to dial them in at the range when it’s warm enough

They're awesome clubs!
You obviously know a lot about golf, Jimmy1Putt (newly named). My set is the Calloway Mavrik. First real set I’ve had and that was about 3 years ago.

Just curious your opinion on these clubs, please. I try to play at least once or twice a week. Not a great golfer, but not bad.

Any other golf experts are welcome to chime in too.

Any modern club is going to be good. It's all about personal preference and the confidence you feel standing over the shot.

Whenever you buy a set of irons that match the driver release (Ping G, Stealth, Epic, Sim, AI Smoke, etc), it's going to be geared towards the masses and typically fall into the "game improvement" category. Most of those clubs are cast iron, not forged, so they're indestructible. If you hit them well and like the look, they should last you for 20+ years.
As you find time to play more often, become a little better, or just want to buy new clubs then other things might become more important to you: offset, size, feel, looks, etc. A forged club will offer a lot of feedback on where you struck the face and typically feel amazing when pured, but wear out pretty fast. Especially of you play a lot or are in desert/sandy environments.

Each brand offers a different type of iron: super game improvement, game improvement, players distance, players, CB, and MB.
Mizuno MP line, Taylormade P series, and PXG offer the ability to mix your sets, but still look like you're playing the same clubs.
I've blended MP25/MP5, MP20HMB/MP20MMC/MP20, P790/P770, PXG 0311 P/T and they're all great.
I currently use PXG Gen7 0311P 5-6 and 0317T 7-G.

I find myself using the players distance for the long irons and players in the scoring clubs.
Players distance irons are typically compact in size, hollow, hot faces, high/easy launching, and low spin. They go far with the high launch and low spin, but I find them slightly unpredictable. Their high launch is supposed to offset the low spin for holding greens, but it's not as reliable as I'd like. I've also had a lot of "phantom fliers" where my typical 165 yard 8 iron hits that dead spot on the club face and produces a no spin 190 yard shot. At my club, long is dead on every green.
The players irons are a little more compact, slightly more traditional lofts, more spin for consistency and control, but are slightly less forgiving and more difficult to launch.

Started following golf during COVID. Really late start for me.

Now though I can't wait for the weekend pro tournament coverage especially once football season ends
