Pretty awesome/proud moment this past weekend as my stepson(Junior) had his 1st invite/unofficial game day visit w/ Temple and they are on the verge of offering according to their director of player personnel. They reached out initially this past Monday and wanted him on campus sooner rather than later. He has been contacted by coaches from VT( just messaging him on X) but it's mostly been the Ivy leagues messaging him, particularly Columbia, Cornell and Harvard. Anyways, being a recruiting nut and as a college football fan it's even more exciting. Just wanted to see if anyone else had any football recruiting experiences w/ their kid?

That’s pretty awesome, congrats to your step son. I imagine that’s going to be a lot of fun to be apart of. You'll have to give us some inside info on how things operate behind the scenes after he makes his decision

That’s awesome. Congrats your stepson not only for being looked at for football but also from schools in the Ivy League. Must have good ACT scores😁
lol he's a genius which is good but also sucks, because I'm not...Unfortunately, Ivy doesn't offer scholarships for sports and he wants to play major Div 1 ....We shall see

My neighbor across the street their grandson is a senior at Center Grove and committed to play football for ISU. Poor kid tore his ACL and MCL like the first drive of the season against Westfield. They were worried that ISU was going to pull the offer but coach confirmed that they still want him which is the right thing to do.

One of my HS teammates/buddies played at Yale and has him a nice 7 or 8 year NFL career playing TE.

On a side note, his Frosh year at Yale he was penciled in to make his first start and overslept the and missed the bus. His first start had to wait until the following week lol.

I was able to go through the process with a couple of the high school kids I trained. Most were straight forward, just a lot of communication.
I did have two kids that ended up getting Big 10 offers and the process was very stressful for them.
A few things I learned
-At the end of the day, its all business. Nothing personal.
-Be supportive but also be dad. Learn when to sit back and watch him enjoy the process but also know when its time to step in and help.
-Self marketing goes a long way. Unless you're Jonny Fivestar, these coaches have little to no knowledge of who you are.

I had no idea Lawrie played that long in the league.

This is awesome, congrats. Went through the process for baseball, not football so I can’t help much.

That's really neat, congrats to you and your stepson and best of luck throughout this process! I hope you all can enjoy it, take in some awesome recruiting visits and catch some free football. Nothing quite like being on a college campus on a fall saturday game-day. And VIP treatment to boot!

Went through the process 22 years ago went to a lot of schools camps and my dad honestly talked to most of the recruiters with him being a former college player. Ended up hurting my knee junior year during basketball season dislocating it and tearing 3 of the 4 ligaments in my knee. That pretty much ended any bigger schools looking at me ended up playing at a small school in Wisconsin. Best advice is be as involved as you can because he's still a kid and these are adults trying to get something out of you.
