One of my best friends is a first generation immigrant from China. His mom talks about the Mao years often. They fled do to hardships and in search for opportunity. She's very outspoken against the CCP, while also being very politically connected to the PRC. I usually bite my tongue because they are very strong minded on the topic of politics in general, yet they somehow cannot see the similarities in American politics to other oligarchic and authoritarian countries. What's really fascinating to me is that someone can immigrate to this country with essentially a blank slate of knowledge on American history, settle in to their news bubble (be it right or left), and without fail, start regurgitating literal propaganda talking points from said news organization, while simultaneously being completely unaware of The Machine that's behind it all.
I watched this entire interview and this guy has an uncanny resemblance to my friend and even makes a lot of the same points. The difference, is that my friend has been duped by "State TV" here in America. Note: I don't mean that in the sense of Right vs Left, Dem vs Republican....I mean that he blindly follows big establishment government and believes that "American Liberalism" can do no wrong. On a per-policy basis, he's very Libertarian. Which is why I find this all too funny (and scary).
