The way he does it , is not dissimilar from the way Smart, Saban, Harbaugh or Swinney operate. You need to be in order to win big. Urban had Aaron Hernandez at UF so a lot has been rehashed over time. What happened there is not that much different then happens at Bama, FSU , UGA , Texas etc. Im sure UGA will have there own docs once Kirby leaves. If we want choir boys to coach , then thats ok, but then drop the championship talk.Urban seems to spend a lot of time lately talking about his days as an assistant coach here 30 years ago.
But, sorry, nope to him. I want to win too but not the way he does it. Also I do wonder if he'd be as successful in this NIL/transfer era. It's not just about winning in the living room of a high school kid, you've got to keep them believing in you for years. And he's no kid anymore.
Some guys aren't cut out for the NFL. And it's usually college guys. You are used to being the King and having a schedule that has some guaranteed wins. You get to the NFL and the guys in that locker room don't give a shit if you won a natty and the guys in the other locker room really don't give a shit.Does Urban want to coach again, he seemed to give zero effort in his last coaching job in the NFL
Yep. 3 killers on the 2012 team alone. And as we know, Notre Dame didn't have ANY controversies or controversial players come through the program during the longest tenured coach of this century's tenure...
I agree with your first paragraph.Urban seems to spend a lot of time lately talking about his days as an assistant coach here 30 years ago.

FIFYI get ND. I've had so many personal connections to the school over the years... and now with my homie Father Bob running the show, it's hit its peak.
BUT
I'm a Southshore Alum (not to mention a former opponent on the court). All I care about is being elite and winning it all. That has always led me to believe that paying Saban Can't Say No money is the way to accomplish that goal.
Him and Billy Napier will just switch schools. Added bonus Wouldn't be that hard of a move for the families. Not often you get to stay in state. 👍Mike Norvell might be available soon 😇
This would be our target coach if MF doesn't work out.
Gary Andersen didn't exactly leave him champagne at Oregon State either. He'd be my top choice if the Freeman/ND relationship ends.
I'd also take a look at Jonathan Smith long-term if he can turn around MSU into a respectable program again, because he took over an absolute dumpster fire.

Smith played for and coached with Dennis Erickson. Also coached with Chris Petersen. Good offensive pedigree.
I like them both.Yup. He also builds his teams from the trenches out, which I love, and I do think his offensive system would fit perfectly at ND. And you're right, the Oregon State turnaround was terrific. I think he might still be there if the PAC-12 hadn't imploded.
All that said...I still think Cignetti would be my top choice. I hope it doesn't come to that, and CMF gets this thing right, but Cignetti is just an all-around terrific coach.
Freeman isn't going anywhere, if anything they would bring in more support staff. The issue is more about preparation than anything, the talent has been upgraded and if anything Washington might get a job after this year so we would need a big time DL coach. A good move would be to bring in a guy to be an assistant to the head coach that's sole purpose is game week prep and organization. Someone who is a veteran head coach that is looking for a step down in the recruiting workload. I think people really need to understand that we need stability more than anything else, Denbrock's offense next year will be much better in year 2 and Gino will finally be able to be evaluated through Angelli, Carr, or Minchey.
thats thing he would be focused on prep and just be the player guy on gamedays. Think Big Dom in philly but more of a Veteran Coach type.would be very hard to mesh a guy like that with Anthony Threash, the analytics guy MF already has in his ear on the sidelines every game. You can't really sit between two stools and MF seems to be going the analytics route for now. He has Tressel as his mentor im sure he calls him all the time to discuss things and get feedback etc
I like them both.
Leipold is still my guy, though.
This is very fair. I assume Leipold could try to get him to come back with him if he moves again. My biggest concern with Leipold is the struggles KU has had since his OC took the Penn State job.
Not saying LL isn't a terrific coach, but Kotelniecki has been with him since 2013, and Kansas has looked very, very bad without him.
