I mean sure, there is an example of an upset on this level. But there’s also thousands of examples of games like this going just how they are expected.

Also, if I remember correct, app st had a freak athlete at qb that gave meatchicken fits and they got extremely lucky in other areas.

NIU will try to ground and pound, shorten the game, limit mistakes and hope ND playes uncharacteristically bad. I just don’t see it.
True - but there are other games that the 'freak athlete' is not involved and the superior team took the other team for granted... i.e.... 2015 NIU vs O$U....

It’s going to be a frustrating game, & I predict at least a dozen posters will call for firings during the game for the following reasons:

ND will force the pass game.
NIU returns all 5 DBs who were top 15 nationally last year in passing defense efficiency.
They will know ND wants to pass & will plan accordingly.

NIU is a running team & will try to burn clock as much as possible with the new clock rules.

Those two factors combined will make it a much closer game at half than it should be.

Now, if ND says eff it & runs the ball & throws short passes to get their athletes in space….they will score a lot early & then can work on the passing game while up double-digits.
I also believe your first scenario is most likely. We'll get threads about Freeman, Denbrock, Landow, WRs/TEs/QBs sucking and then they'll start to impose their will.

The OL still needs to prove it can hold up long enough for a play-action or long drop back. I would guess Denbrock slowly builds up his aggressive playcalling if we string together 2+ drives that show the OL is ready. If not, we'll be attacking 20 yds and under while the line continues to build cohesion. I bet we'll continue to see a lot of screens, jet sweeps, etc to loosen things up.

I can't decide what our defense will do. Part of me could see them coming out wildly confident and aggressive and part of me could see a sleepy start. Hopefully the blend of first home game and hyped underclassmen means everyone is locked in.

The one reason I think we don't have a "letdown" game is because there is SO MUCH COMPETITION at nearly every position. If anyone comes out sleep-walking, they're probably getting pulled.

I really hope Rendell uncorks one, I just want to see these mythical, wobbling, power-punts/

If I was Al Washington I would grab Bryce Young & say, “listen young man. You are going out there this drive. If you get a TFL & a sack in 2 of the 3 plays, you automatically move into the 2 deep.”

IU just scored the most points in the program's history against WIU lol
Remember Bishop Sycamore or whatever that fake HS team was called?
That’s WIU in college ball.
Somebody needs to check stat to verify if WIU is a real program.
They have won 4 games in 5 years.

Well it's a real school at least, they've apparently been losing a ton of students over the past decade. I don't recall if Bishop Sycamore was a real school or not

My father-in-law is doing his final sabbatical in Hong Kong, and my wife had never visited as they didnt have the means to bring their kids out with him. (He's come out every 3 years for about 15 years now).

I surprised her and my in-laws (I checked with them to make sure it was ok months ago) with a trip to HK to visit them. We arrived this morning after a 15-hour flight where I maybe got some broken 2 hours of sleep, went on a hike, and kayaked for a couple of hours, and I'm finally getting ready for bed and should be out by 9 P.M. But I already got my alarm set for 3:30 am to watch these boys play in probably the most insignificant game this season.

I hope the NIU fans read this and know this: ND fans are a different breed.

GO IRISH!!!!!

I want to see the offensive line to continue to mesh together.

I want to see Riley’s arm and the WR’s.

Other than we know what we have.
