I also believe your first scenario is most likely. We'll get threads about Freeman, Denbrock, Landow, WRs/TEs/QBs sucking and then they'll start to impose their will.
The OL still needs to prove it can hold up long enough for a play-action or long drop back. I would guess Denbrock slowly builds up his aggressive playcalling if we string together 2+ drives that show the OL is ready. If not, we'll be attacking 20 yds and under while the line continues to build cohesion. I bet we'll continue to see a lot of screens, jet sweeps, etc to loosen things up.
I can't decide what our defense will do. Part of me could see them coming out wildly confident and aggressive and part of me could see a sleepy start. Hopefully the blend of first home game and hyped underclassmen means everyone is locked in.
The one reason I think we don't have a "letdown" game is because there is SO MUCH COMPETITION at nearly every position. If anyone comes out sleep-walking, they're probably getting pulled.
